|
the best buy near me has an ok selection of anime titles, but the way they organize them is insane. I don't know about where you live, but the one near me doesn't really organize any of its anime. it spreads the selection randomly around about 2 shelves. are any of your best buys like that? it really make sit confusing to me. -Silva

All of the Bestbuys near me have excellent anime sections. Usually around an 8-10 ft. section with 4 (or 5) shelves full of anime DVDs. However, I try to do most of my purchasing at the local anime shops.

yea. the only problem is that i live in alabama, and the demand for anime hear is like a million to one. your lucky to find an ok comic shop around here. the place i go though to get my manga is waldenbooks and books a million. the comic shop's selection isn't that great. they sell more stuff like animerica and shonen jump, so it's not much of a selection. you have to realize though that alabama is one of the worst states in the US and i was lucky to find a foreign films theatre where i could catch the Cowboy Bebop movie last summer. it's pathetic! i guess i'd have better luck looking online than finding a halfway decent anime shop. thanks for your reply though. -Silva

The Best Buys by my house are okay, but they sometimes don't have what you are looking for in stock (like the dirty pair: project eden DVD I was looking for yesterday) The 2 different Best Buy's I normally go to used to have the anime section alll in disarray, but now its a bit more organized.
Best Buy does have a website where you can order anime online (Word of advice tho: get the stuff shipped UPS, do not get the free shipping deal) Generally, Best Buy is cheaper then everybody else. However, stuff like Box Sets are cheaper at anime shops online (i.e. I ordered my Blue Gender box set from Anime Castle, which is almost 15 bucks cheaper then Best Buy). |

The Best Buy near me has an ok anime selection and it is organized alphebtacally. Not as good a selection as Suncoast, but always cheaper and has most of the higher profile anime.

True, but your larger companies like Anime Nation and Anime Castle do not sell boot legs (as far as I know). |

Unfortunately, Anime Castle sells SonMay/EverAnime CDs. Anime Nation is, however, bootleg free. Another good place that sells all legit stuff is Planet Anime, so check them out. |

The Best Buy that I go to has a descent selection of anime. Most of it is in alphabetical order. Although you can get box set cheaper at other places such as http://www.dvdplanet.com. They had the Blue Gender Box set listed at $89.99. I picked up the Sakura Wars Specila Edition DVD for $27.99. I think the price was that low because it was a pre-order.

what I find is that you'll find what your looking for at specialized places(online anime stores, suncoast, stuff liek that). but at other places(Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.) you may find a few titles but they will be cheaper in price then the other stores.

the bestbuy's from my house are ok and they have pretty much a good selection. But i buy my anime in a store called "anime hurricane" they saw all the anime you can get and it's pretty cheap to

If there is a title I want, I check Best Buy 1st.... and if they don't have it, I get it online. Best Buy is always cheaper (plus I get it right away). If I'm not mistaken, they sell media at a loss and count on the larger items (TVs, Computers, etc) to make their money. Take advantage of rampant over-commercialism!
Incidently, today I picked up the Limited (Ultra) Edition of Boogiepop Phantom for $52 at Best Buy. I couldn't pass up that price. They really do have some good deals you can stumble across. But, yes, the selection can be hit or miss. |

Well, they don't sell it at a loss, what they do however is sell it at their cost plus how much it costs to ship and distribute it between stores, which per disc is almost nothing. I used to work there and the reason they get can sell so cheap is because they have agreements with the major companies to get discounts since they buy in such bulk. I happened to be there when our store got in a shipment of 5000 copies of Star Wars Ep I on DVD and another 3000 copies on VHS, and those weren't the Special Edition sets. You are right though, they do rely on the big ticket items and accessories for their profit, like $45 markup on a $55 spool of Monster Speaker wire or a $300 markup on a $600 Trinitron TV, it waws still great getting things at 5% over cost.
But yeah, I also use Best Buy for my anime, and when they don't have the title I want I go to www.uln.com. Their prices are low and shipping can be pretty good when you get more than a couple discs. |
