That is an amazing line-up for the con. I remember seeing Seki at AX years ago. He's a really nice guy.

If Otakon were getting Hiyama as well, I'd say lock the two in a room together. You'd probably get something like this. Now that I think about it, has that ever happened before? Those two being at the same con, I mean. Anyway; wish I could go. I'd love to get the Micman's autograph. |

Such an amazing 20th year for this con. I so wish I could go. Chiaki Ishikawa and Yoko Kanno are among my top 5 artists, ever, and anywhere. Tomokazu Seki being the veteran that is, has played many roles in many of my favorite anime, the one I most recently watched (again) being Nodame Cantible. This con has both my Chiaki-samas >.<

Finally Otakon has a J-guest for 2013 whom is worth mentioning and a guest I'd almost wait in the hellish (mostly due to Otakon's signature lack of logistical planning) autograph lines for.
Now if we could just swap Yoko Kanno for Kajiura Yuki and the current J-music lineup for one that is a bit heavier (and not J-"soul rap") then I think they'd really have something going for them on all fronts in the J-guest department. I'm not sure what they're doing with their English guests though... |

That's like swapping out filet mignon with sandwich steak. Agree with you on the horrible Otakon autograph line logistics, though. It's as if the staff is trying to sabotage the people in line. But I can't afford to go this year, so I guess that's one less thing to complain about. |

However, Kanno is one of the few Japanese musical guests whom I've both heard of and have seen shows featuring her works. I don't think that I can say the same for the other Japanese musical guests. So I'm going to call this as progress. Though I suppose this could work out for me if they schedule the Kanno events against something that I'm more interested in as that might help get the lines to both events down to something almost manageable. Almost. So far the Japanese guest lineup is more appealing than the English one. Never thought I'd say that about Otakon but I can't help but think that given their current guest list. |

What are you talking about? Kanno's scored for some of the best anime ever made. Kajiura usually scores for crap like .hack//SIGN and Madlax. You can't compare boring garbage like that with Cowboy Bebop, Turn A Gundam, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and Macross Plus. Some of the best anime to date. The only show vaguely worth watching that Kajiura has scored is Madoka Magica.
And Kajiura's music is good, but it all sounds pretty much the same. She has almost no range at all. I wish I could go to Otakon this year, because the guest list is vastly superior to last year's (except Vic Mignogna, ugh). |

What am I talking about, regarding Kanno? Pretty much what I said. I'm not impressed by Kanno's music by itself. I'm not impressed with the vast majority of shows that she's scored, by themselves. I'm not impressed with the result when the two are combined. You seem to be telling me that I should rank a composer by the merits of the shows that, in these cases, she has composed for. I don't really buy into that premise but even if I did my opinion would not change as I was, to be clear, not impressed with any of those shows that you mentioned. I also agree with your opinions on the 3 Kajiura shows. However I did like a track or 2 from her soundtrack to those shows and there were other shows that she composed for that I did like. I just cannot say the same about Kanno. Though not going to Otakon is permitted only to a North American anime fan only if he went to the preceding Anime Expo. At least, that's what I've always been told. |

I wish I could go to Otakon instead of AX. I haven't been that interested in AX's guest list this year.
