My hats off to Zac for going through all of Sword Art Online. I had a bad feeling about this series around episode 7 or 8, and it seems I made a good call to bail out.

It's always fun to hear more horrified reactions to Sword Art Online. It's a terrible show, and it's awful that poor Tomohiko Itou, who worked with Mamoru Hosoda on Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars is going to be known as the "Sword Art Online director".

He also did the brilliant and criminally under-rated Occult Academy, that was written by Satoshi Kon collaborator Seishi Minakami (Paranoia Agent, Paprika). I hope that show gets its long-needed re-evaluation soon.

Maybe Silver Spoon can rescue this poor man's reputation from being stuck as the Sword Art Online guy. There is no justice.

I thought the show was ok for the first half...then it went down hill fast! Didn't bother watching the ending...

I was once excited for SAO, but after hearing the complaints I decided to wait. But after hearing all of what Zac had to say about it, I don't think I'll ever watch this show.

Summer shows I looking forward to are Silver Spoon, Kiru no iru Machi, Blood Lad, Symphogear S2, The World God Only Knows 3, Hakkenden s2, Uchouten Kazoku, and the new Rozen Maiden anime.

Wow! Sword Art sounds terrible. Glad i stayed away despite all the talk. Never thought it would be bad that way. I mean I always thought it looked terrible.

I still feel compelled to watch it.

Haven't had the time (or money) to pick up Princess & the Pilot but, I already saw it and I agree that it's such a simple, straight forward film. Paused on Rose of Versailles because I want to marathon the 2nd Boxset with the first once it comes out.

Attack on Titan is really fun and, even though I have been spoiled, I still look forward to the action scenes and, surprisingly, development for the main cast. Mikasa, so far, is my favorite (Jean is getting better) but, I just want to know why Levi is so popular. I'm still enjoying Flowers of Evil as well.

Oh no..Zac just suffered through the SAO disease too.
I'm so sorry. Anime cry
I will watch the English Dub on Toonami for support (but only the first two episodes). BTWspoiler[ is it still sex if Asuna and Kirino aren't physically together?]

Yes, I can't wait for Free! but, I don't care if it gets more hate. I'm just going to bathe in the beauty of 5 guys wearing little to no clothing while swimming while drinking the tears of the pissed off fanboys. "Underwater taint shots" = Anime hyper

Time of Eve the film was in KickStarter; the OVA was made available thanks to Rightstuff.

Dang it! All this talk about Sword Art Online makes me want to check it out through some weird sort of bile fascination. It can't be that awful can it? It does sound pretty bad. This podcast did sincerely make me want to check out The Princess and the Pilot.
I love Attack On Titan. It's not high art or anything, but it is so fun. Mikasa is becoming one of my favorite anime characters ever.

x_x It's about as bad as every other big popular anime that people think is cool to bash once it becomes mainstream to like it like One Piece or Naruto. I didn have a problem with it

But the thing is that SAO and Naruto are shit.

Hell, my friend is a diehard Naruto fan and even HE admits that the manga is shit now and he's reading it solely because he's already read so much of it.

Sword Art Online is just Twilight for guys. It's the story of Videogame Jesus and haremettes being awesome and saving the day.
Which is totally fine. If you want wish fulfillment escapist fantasy, go right ahead. But the whole shounen persecution complex is really tiring.

Maybe your shows just aren't that good. Maybe people just have really awful taste. Popularity is not a mark of quality.

>_> And I know fans who say it's good, so good for you and him. Let's not speak for all of a fandom, kay?

Until a show you do like sells well then suddenly it becomes "getting the recognition it deserves" =P It's pretty standard the more popular something is, the more haters it attracts. Haters gonna hate.

Once again Zac, and by what it seems like, people make SAO seem WAY worse than what it actually is, or not what it is at all.

I seriously am appalled when people say Asuna turns into this weak character in the first season. And it really pisses me of when Zac went on his little rant about them getting married and such. It wasnt about becoming an idealized wife, it was about two people who care about each other being good partners to EACH OTHER. I seriously dont see how it can be interpreted in this negative way. It seriously reminds me of ultra feminism that see's things that aren't there. Not only that, but Asuna doesnt become a weak fighter, in fact, she is integral to getting them out of the game. The only reason Kirito finishes him off is because he is considered the "first" main character that the male viewers should relate to and its told mainly through his perspective. It's so irritating when all this BS gets brought into it really isnt there.

Second part you could make more of an argument against, but it makes sense in the way the story plays out. Though at the same time, once again, I felt like the point was missed when most people talk about the second season. It wasnt Asuna that was the object of desire for the villain. He wanted into the family so he could have power. He didn't care about Asuna at all or even wanted her. ANYONE could have done as long as he was brought into the family for money or power. Not to imprison a woman to piss someone off, that wasnt his main goal.

I like the ANNcast, but I get really annoyed when the misconstrued feminism talk comes into it. Modern feminism is almost as bad as the whole male chauvinistic attitudes they claim to be fighting against. Its two extremes that are really irritating.

I think my wife would have an issue with that analogy Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

Anyway, I know the vitriol SAO seems to garner; so I'll just let sleeping dogs lie...

I saw what SAO was at episode 4 a crappy harem show, with a new girl of the week until the hero finally settles on one. There are plenty of things not to like about the show but the thing that bothered me the most was in episode 11. spoiler[In that episode Asuna gets embarrassed because she tells her "husband" that she loves him when he is sleeping and oh no he may have heard! Also in that same episode she gets embarrassed when she has to pull up her skirt a little to ride on his shoulders, and she get's embarrassed and tells him not to look. What? you have had sex and are "married" why is it embarrassing for him to see your underwear?]

Thank God 2012 was when my burnout hit its biggest depth so I didn't even bother watching much anime outside of a few episodes of Apollo.

My thing about making a show different is that you are either going to get the original concept and new concept battling each other so it makes little sense or you are going to change it to the point were you might as well just make it something completely different.

I could understand the Free thing if Anime journalism was as bad as game journalism and constantly just made really combative editorials that riled people up but no one did its just people whining about how KyoAni isnt making something for them

As for what I am currently watching we all know the best anime is the one that contains this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrW_wzWwSIY
