This news makes me happy. Now lets see if HBO will be OK with the lack of sex scenes....

I'm seriously hoping this happens. I watched all the anime last year and while it was an amazing experience, i feel under a director with a different visual style it wouldn't have felt as dragged out in the middle.

I hope he doesn't follow the manga TOO closely, because that's what the anime did, and I think it was lesser for it. (I haven't read the manga, but I understand that the anime was a fiercely rigid adaptation and it shows. I'm sure I've mentioned around here before, but I felt the anime could have benefited from a somewhat more loose adaptation.)
In any case, I'm sure this is good news for all of the fans. Shall we start speculating about casting choices? |

Hmm. From what I've heard, the anime followed the manga closely enough that if you liked it in one form there was no reason to check it out in the other, so I have to wonder if this series will stick closely enough to the material that there's no reason for me to watch it because I've already seen the anime.
That said, I'm still curious to see how this turns out. If I had cable, I'm sure I'd tune in and watch the first few episodes, at least. |

I'm curious to know with HBO's 10 episode per season structure how much of the manga's material will be covered per season if they're not going to add any extra content.

Monster is a perfect series for HBO. I really hope they green light it.

Sounds good. Though while I want it to be faithful it should be liberal enough togive anyone who has read the manga or seen the anime reason to stay interested.

So stoked for this! Glad to see Urasawa wants to be so tightly involved.

It probably won't be just 10 episodes per season. Game of Thrones is only like that because of the giant scale of the production with filming taking place in multiple countries. The action in Monster isn't anywhere near as far reaching geographically, meaning they could probably match Boardwalk Empire's 12 episode seasons with little trouble. |

Sounds like it will stay fairly faithful in plot, which is a good thing.
Hopefully Dr. Tenma is Asian in this(I would be extremely happy if he were Japanese and played by someone like Masi Oka). If they make Tenma an American, I'd hope non-white in that case. It would be interesting to see if we get Eva and Tenma sex scenes in the beginning and somewhere in the story, a sex scene with 18-year old Nina and Dr. Tenma (although that would probably be squicky). |

Why does it matter? As long as they are a good actor it won't bother me what race they are. |

I'm hoping HBO sticks with this. And hopefully Urasawa gives del Toro a chance to expand his vision and take some liberties with it, while sticking to the main plot.
