what the difference? has anyone bought the import version? I've been looking into buying the entire series for trigun and bebop and I've noticed two versions for sale. one which is 150-200$ and 6-8 dvds and is listed as domestic and coded for region 1. the 2nd goes for 30-40$ 3 dvds and coded for all regions and is listed as an import. both are english dubbed and have all the episodes. i couldn't careless about fancy packaging or extras. all i want is the series i saw on adult swim unedited. so is there any reason i shouldnt get the import version? assuming my dvd player plays that coding(or lack of)

btw anyone know a means to tell if my dvd or player will have problems with something set for all regions? besides checking the manual which ill do as soon as i find it:)

im just skeptical it seems to good to be true. its got to be a different crappy dubb, or low quality disc, or it has problems because of the region code. some packaging and a few features doesnt explain a 120$ difference.. especially when ones an import which should drive the price up.

The price difference is a result of the "import" version being a bootleg. It's very rare anime companies would release a whole series on three discs, same for $30-40 dollars. Bootlegs are crap, they're made from the cheapest (re worst) materials they can find. Hence why they can charge what they can/. An Import version would still have a higher disc count than three, and regardless of that or not would still be more expensive than 3 discs.

Stick to the Domestic R1-4 versions.

Amazon wouldn't sell bootlegs. Can you show me a link to the item?

Then I can tell you what the difference is between it and the more expensive release.

Well, that is interesting...
How about these Initial D Box Sets from Pacific Rim:

[EDIT - Bootleg URL removed -C]

I do not believe they shipped mine yet, so if they are bootlegs, should I just cancel the order?

Although that would mean I have to get the TP DVD's Mad

technically, Amazon isn't selling those. They are just the go-between for a user to sell to another user. But I get your point Wink

It is exactly how he stated it. That is in the area where individuals like you and me can sell stuff they have. It is not Amazon's merchandise. The same bootleg stuff can be found on Half.com and Ebay. That's why I'm always careful of what I buy over the internet. Unless it says its official or that it's not bootleg, I wouldn't even bother considering it.

While they are bootlegs (I know becasue I have that set Very Happy ), I wouldn't cancel the order because it is actually quite a good set.
Yes, I know I'm going to be flamed for saying this. While I don't usually recomend HK dvds as a substitute for R1 dvds, Tokyopop did this series so wrong that they don't deserve your money. Just my opinion, take it as you will.

Well, Amazon has had a deal on all 6 Bebop DVDs for awhile now. (Since last Christmas) Geez, I found it right AFTER I got all six. -_-;

It's not a box set, it's just all 6 together for $98.90. And yes it's the domestic legal release. Bebop Collection

I personally prefer the licensed versions if it is released in a -timely- manner. For example, the king of taking far too long on releases Viz, has the rights to many classic anime series. Alas few if any of them have been completely released -unaltered- on vhs, let alone dvd. As consumers, IMO we really should be asking them at regular intervals, when will they be delayed and why are there continued delays! Due to their abysmal release history, I have well founded reservations that Viz will completely release the Maison Ikkoku and Ranma tv, ova and movies within a reasonable time. In situations like these, I prefer to actually obtain the unlicensed versions, because I for one do not want to wait another four plus years, for these items to be released at their horribly slow pace. There is little justification IMO for the widespread delays for dvd releases.

As a side note, I wholeheartedly agree that the quality of the images, audio and subtitles are important too, but the price does matter as well. But IMO the best quality, well priced, licensed version means extremely little, if it is being released at a terribly slow pace. IMO, timing is absolutely critical if you want to capture the interest (aka monies) of the target audience.

Lastly, as for the Bebop collection, anyone here buying the limited edition version? I've been considering it, but I’d like to hear other users reasons why they are or aren't buying it. Thanks.
Wink

Well, the Ranma Forever box set is due out 11/30/03. That's the end of the series...the OAVs are already on DVD as are the movies. *shrug*
