Maybe it'll have an adaptation expansion and each arc of the manga will be boosted to average around forty episodes each like the first anime. Naoko Takeuchi has plenty of control this time around and it wouldn't be unexpected, considering Sailor Moon is guaranteed to make a ton of money. 200 episodes could become 400 episodes, and then people could start using the One Piece excuse of "It's too long to start now". Laughing



I would personally love that. While I think the longer an anime runs, the more it drops in quality as it progresses (I'm talking about long runners here, although there are always exceptions), I would happily watch any Sailor Moon anime thrown my way. It would be great to get more character-driven arcs focusing on the senshi, maybe some more episodes with Haruka and Michiru (perhaps they could even *officially* come out of the closet with a kiss, but then that is my biggest wish-fulfillment for this series outside of it being *good*), and perhaps some new monsters. I'd love if it went full-blown and beat the original's run of 200 episodes (this coming from someone who enjoyed the filler).

It would almost be too good to be true if they could get Ikuhara for an episode (or season!) or two, as his involvement with season three was my favorite (tied for season 5). It was so deliciouslly dark and full of his favorite little symbols that I consider it the best of the series.

Now that my shipping goggles are on, I wonder what they'll do with Seiya this time around? Follow the manga to a T and keep her secondary, or take a cue from the anime and play up her character? I can't wait to see how this unfolds~

Preview-wise, all I really want is the genre, studio, the medium it was adapted from if applicable and if not definitely a key member of staff or two (typically director or screenplay writer). I knew that Red Data Girl was a PA Works product, adapted from a modern fantasy novel, which was exactly what I cared about. I watched a PV or two just to admire the art I knew to expect.

That said, I much, much prefer the Japanese style of releasing information. I followed basically everything released for Evangelion 3.0 up until the film was released, and when I saw it I enjoyed watching it with nothing having been spoiled for me.

I never get complaints about filler. If you don't like it you can just skip it.. but if it never gets made then no one can enjoy it. I personally like filler episodes and some of my favorite episodes in the original were filler. My favorite episode of Cowboy Bebop was a filler episode just because of the way the crew all played off each other and it was pretty much the only episode where they did that. They can be fun romps in between the plot-heavy episodes.

Agreed. I am really impressed by Henry's Sword of the Stranger items and that lovely Mononoke (medicine seller) box. I really enjoyed looking at the photos he provided.

I only have one import, and it is a really nice Black Butler lithograph. Maybe someday I'll photograph my collection for shelf life and include it, but I didn't feel like one item was enough for this column.

Isn't Journey into the West a Chinese novel? In fact is it not part of the 4 great classical works, along with another novel that became the basis for Suikoden and the 108 stars of destiny. Has it had some influence on Japanese works yes, but it is not something inherently Japanese like Genji, and the are other Japanese works actually writing in Japan that have had their influence as well.

Whoa, I only skimmed the Answerfans responses earlier, but you mentioning a Mononoke box made me go back and look at all the pictures...Damn, I really want that box now! Surprised (Along with everything else, heh.)

The only imports I have are a few LNs.

I don't think Lady Murasaki planned on dying before completing the story, so I hope not! Laughing You might be able to blame it on the fact that spoiler[the titular Genji dies halfway through the novel, though.]

Are there any appraisers for anime artwork? I'm sure Mandarake probably has a few people who specialize in it, but is there anyone actually qualified with a certificate from some unknown identity to appraise anime artwork? I've only begun to hear about specialists for Disney and WB, so I assume that Japanese artwork as of now, with the possible exception of Studio Ghibli, does not have a large enough demand to warrant any specialist.

I also fail to see how archaeology plays a necessity in grading anime cels or sketches.

But once again, this depends on the beholder. Yes, people with great techniques are often unappreciated in the anime world for a whole slew of reasons, just as many of these same types of individuals are not appreciated in other industries. But I don't think you can say that a cel from Angel's Egg should be worth more than a cel from Dragonball simply because the former is, artistically, a better product. With animation created for the masses, people attach sentiments to the anime, character or scene and that's why certain series retain their value despite the lackluster quality of the artwork.

Look at it like this - If everyone recognized the same series that you like as being 'quality' and wanted to own a piece of it, you'd end up paying some of the hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars, to own anything. As long as you're collecting for yourself and not hoping to make a killing reselling it, buying artwork from unknown or unappreciated artists is a lot better than competing with everyone else for artwork from popular series.

The Four Great Classical Chinese Novels had a huuuuuuuuuge impact on all of Asian storytelling, not just China.
