Color me unsurprised since the silhouettes looked like no other show except the Swimming Boys commercials. Also, Tumblr. But I'm sure this thread will be bogged down by anti-moe/fujoshi fans claiming that this series will "ruin" some 50+ years of anime forever or that Kyoto Animation or the producers can go jump in a fire or whatever. Point blank: I'm watching this show for the hot high school boys swimming in tight swimsuits. Don't care if that makes me a freak or creepy or whatever. I'm aware this is just a cartoon and these characters are fake and, possibly, the story won't be as well-written as say Twelve Kingdoms and that this might be heavily fanservicey for women. I don't care if it sells poorly in Japan because if Sentai Filmworks or any US company licenses it, I will pre-order it without hesitation because I'm willing to buy an anime Blu-Ray with hot highschool boys in tight swimsuits. I'll even import if it's not brought over because I like highschool boys in tight wet swimsuits. I still like shows with good writing, great animation, good voice acting, and great direction; creativity is rare but welcomed. But I also like shows that either attempt at having both good story and cheesecake or just plain cheesecake. I don't think KyoAni is brave for animating a show aimed directly towards women nor do I think this (or any fanservice heavy show) will ruin anime forever. I just want to see hot highschool boys in a sports anime wearing tight swimsuits. But I'm sure people will just ignore this post and start whining regardless. Oh well... |

We don't need antagonism in here because we're all good peeps, right?
On another note, anyone noticed how 2 of those Honorable Mentions now got anime adaptations? I wonder if the other ones will get one in the long run. |

Yet somehow the same thing with girls would get trash talked by all of these said, currently happy women.

No, it really wouldn't. Thanks for playing, though. |

Well, that's a fun surprise to wake up to! I'm sure there's plenty of people who are upset or disappointed that the project isn't what they were hoping it would be, but hopefully folks will still give it a shot when the show actually comes out.

Kinda saw this coming btw but was hoping for something else. Oh well, I still might watch it. I don't remember watching much anime with swimming as a major theme before.

I was so anticipating Full Metal Panic Season 3... Imagine my disappointment when I watched the live stream.

Perhaps not by the exact same people, but it would get talked down as a lurid fanservice panderfest for sure. It would be funny to see these dudes have girlfriends, that would enrage so many people. And for the same reason it annoys otaku when anime women have boyfriends, it ruins the fantasy. Last edited by walw6pK4Alo on Fri Apr 26, 2013 8:27 am; edited 1 time in total |

There is a way to execute fanservice well; when it's well-timed, funny, subtle, or well shot, or any variation of those aspects (Binbogami-Ga uses fanservice humor well, for example). I don't think anyone will criticize you for wanting to see well-executed fanservice, so...cool down. |

KyoAni bringing their skills to a very different kind of project for them… what's not to like about that? I really liked the character animation in Clannad, so seeing them work with such a different aesthetic should be interesting.
