This makes me even sadder that I live on the East Coast and can't afford to go to AX......*cry* *weep* *flood*
Though on the bright side, it was nice to see anime portrayed in a positive light in the media! (....Wah! I want to see Clamp!) |

I liked the article - didn't attempt to over-generalize in the "anime is a genre of giant robots and saucy-eyed women" kind of way.
Though I am anxiously anticipating the announcment of this new anime called "Inuyashi"...

Yeah, I noticed the spelling error as well and giggled. I wish they could have at least double checked and spelt it correctly, but what the heck, it doesn't really matter to me. Overall it was a good and interesting read, and it was nice to see a positive article on anime and its popularity in the United States - even on the cosplay aspect, which used to receive a lot of negative press.

I'm a little confused at the mention of the "EX" webzine. That site is dead. It hasn't been updated in five years. (It truly is an EX-webzine...)

This is probably one of the fewest times that I have seen an article that does make anime look like just porn and eyecandy for horny people... Ah, the times are changing.

It's good to see the Times quote ANN. It's even better to see that Zac was the first person quoted for the article.

Hm, I had always thought Otakon to be the largest anime convention in the US. Guess that honor goes to Anime Expo instead. I pretty much know next to nothing about anime conventions...

Otakon probably would be the biggest convention if they didn't cap their attendence. I don't know if Otakon's organizers are looking for a bigger place though. |

As long as it has a good ending. 
I remember a write-up of AX from two years ago. (Was it the L.A. Times as well, or another paper?) They mistook Cardcaptor Sakura for yaoi, or something. |

I wonder why manga was italicized, yet anime was not. They're both foriegn words. It's interesting how Zac (appropriately) referenced E3, even though I doubt most of the LA Times' readers know what E3 is.
I heard that AX does some odd number fudging. I forget what the person said, but it made me think that AX isn't as big as you would think (although I don't think it makes that much of a difference). |

Um, it's the L.A. Times, you seriously don't expect everything to be accurate right. Otherwise it was a good article, like others have voiced, it didn't forshadow anime or manga in a bad light. I am wondering how many fans from Japan will be showing up, just to see CLAMP. I can't wait for ANN con-report, I hope it includes all those kinds of details. 
And the quote about CLAMP, Miyasaki, and Steven Spielberg analogy did slightly make Zac sound like a raving fanboy, but that really can't be helped since CLAMP is so freaking huge to the anime/manga world. It was really the only way to explain it to someone who doesn't know a thing about it.
