Am I the only one who hasn't seen Evangelion? Has anyone else here also not seen any/some of those big time popular shiws that as otaku/anime fans, we're 'supposed' to see, such as Cowboy Bebop or Trigun?
I feel kinda odd, knowing I haven't seen the show that is one of the most controversial anime ever, that supposedly everyone has seen. I do plan on seeing it eventually, but for now, I haven't. I didn't catch the [as] run, because I have trouble keeping up with shows on TV, and I always forget to watch the tapes I've recorded. Plus, it's a hassle to fix up my VCR to record, and once I set it to record, I can't watch TV until the recording is complete.
So, has anyone here not seen those hugely popular anime series?

I never watched all of Eva and I've only seen the first half dozen or so episodes of Trigun. I've never been ambitious enough to pick Trigun up and the friend of mine who was buying that series stopped buying anime and moved to Texas.
Eva just never interested me, I found it to be disappointing considering all the praise it gets, it wasn't a bad series I just didn't find it to really be anything all that special or interesting. Was actually kind of average I felt.

I've seen Evangelion and Trigun but not Cowboy Bebop.
Evangelion was one of the first anime I bought as it was one of the most talked about and sounded pretty interesting. I bought Trigun because the tin boxes looked nice.
I will probably pick up Bebop at some point, I just haven't got round to it as I prefer buying collections at the minute.

Poor you! :hugs: Have you tried getting it from over seas, such as the US or UK? Or is it too expensive?

My boyfriend flat-out refuses to watch Eva. (Largely becuase he's yet to meet an Eva fanatic he didn't want to use as a practice dummy for katana training.)
The only reason I've seen Eva was Rightstuf had the Prefect Collection box on sale for $30 (I think) a couple Christmases ago. I was extremely dissapointed by the end of the series too.
Nobody has the same tastes- even the most well-liked series are going to have people they simply don't appeal to. I've barely seen 2 volumes of Trigun, and don't have too much interest in seeing more until a really cheap boxset comes out (or I find a really good sale on one.) And I have absolutely no intention of ever buying, or watching, Ghost in the Shell. Akira I own (10 bucks at rightstuf), but I doubt I'll be watching anytime soon.

While I do feel that everyone should watch Eva at least once, just to participate in the discussion, don't expect to like it. I love the series personally, especially the endings, but for such a popular series it's quite love-it-or-hate-it. As for the other series, I've seen only a handful of episodes of Bebop and Trigun and am not too interested in seeing the rest. The whole "western-style actiony series" thing was never something I was interested in. As for Akira, I love it, but for some reason I despise Ghost in the Shell. I guess I just felt that the philosophy was way too forced (I prefer a more allegorical approach than to psychobabble, but then again I enjoyed Eva's TV series ending...) and I cannot take a sci-fi series that questions the the presence of a soul in a cyborg seriously. I'm sorry, but that topic has been beaten to death in the realm of sci-fi.

I haven´t seen Lain which many people seem to like. I´ve been thinking of getting the box set, only $30 w/ shipping at Rightstuf, but spent too much money at the Suncoast sale purchasing the titles I ¨needed¨ to complete.
As for Eva, it was one of the first titles I purchased. The ¨Perfect Collection¨ was the first collection I ever bought, I didn´t mind spending the money since I was 16 making $300+ a week working illegally in the fields.

I haven't seen Eva, though I have seen Trigun (which I love and was very much a gateway back into anime for me) and Bebop (which I honestly don't care for much, beyond a few episodes and the music).
I might see Eva one of these days, I know it's one of the few series I can rent in my town, but it's not high on my list of priorities.

I don't think you are suppose to see x amount of shows in order to become an Otaku. I think that being an Otaku is just having a fascination with something.
As to your question I have seen NGE as well as Cowboy Bebop, but I am currently watching Trigun. I find that a lot of shows that are really popular that they aren't really my thing. Don't get me wrong I love CB and NGE, and do think that are exceptions to everything, but I just don't like the popular shonen title.
Till next time,
Delta Kiral

Exactly what don't you get about EVA?
Ohh boy just had the largerst urge to flame someone right now but feeling a lot better after watching Gungrave. I see a lot of people talk about this series. Have a lot of you seen this series? Personally I loved it and was balling in tears during the last few minutes of the last episode.

I've seen Bebop and Trigun, i liked them both. The ending in trigun is great, actually one of the better ones i've seen. And when Nicholas D. Wolfwood dies I was in tears. Bebob has a lot of good fights and action and i watch it when i need a break. But i've never gotten around to seeing Eva, but i've heard good things.

No I have not seen Eva, time and things I do do not permit me to. And I think my Blockbuster doesn't have it either, so I'm going to either have to buy it or find a rental store that does(I don't rent off the internet).
