Alright so I finally check out Trigun thanks to netflix, I had previously seen a couple of episodes on AS but I could never seem to watch a bunch in a row and so that turn me off from this series.
Anyways this is my first thoughts on this series through vol 3. I know this is going to sound strange at first but red long coat, really blonde hair, it's Edward the state alchemist. But seriously what with all the characters wearing these huge trench coats in the desert? I know that it part of that BA (<---Use your imagination) look as anime character but I would be complaining if I was Vash. Alright now onto the actual show my discussion goes through vol 3 or up to episode 10. I'll put on Spoiler tags just in case My first impression with this show was that it was going to be a little to over the top for me in terms of comedy to that of action. So far I see more comedy then I would hope, but I am actually enjoying the funny parts of this series. spoiler[I really like Vash's back story cliche but there isn't really anything better a man(or woman) who deciates himself to his cause. The two insurance girls always seems to bring the right touch of laughter into the picture with either their odd way of making friends (Donuts?) or to how they can't seem to figure out who Vash is really is. So after two volumes of that odd fun and good old shooter, Nicholas D. Wolfwood enters in Vol 3 and now I am really digging this show. Wolfwood is one of those great characters that draws you in, for some reason you want to know more about who this man really is, maybe even more so then Vash.] In fact I can't wait for my next three volumes to come in. So my question is what did you think when you original watch the begining of Trigun? I know for some of you that was a long way off but any feedback would be cool. One thing, the coat will make slightly more sense later.
I can definitely say I enjoy Trigun. Maybe because it's one of the first anime I had seen(minus dbz/ronin warriors/old toonami stuff), maybe not. Some cool fighting and a few strong characters did the show for me. The overall story is a "good" type in my book, but the unique and strong characters are why I enjoy the show so much. I doubt you'll be disappointed in anything the farther you progress in the show. |

I loved the beginning of Trigun. Vash is hilarious with his "love and peace" slogan, and I enjoyed watching the misadventures with Vash the Stampede and the two insurance girls following him. Awesome fights as well, and a nice episodic feel greatly reminescent of Cowboy Bebop (and Trigun started airing 2 days before Bebop did). It got even better with the introduction of Wolfwood, whom I agree is an awesome character.
As a whole, I didn't really enjoy Trigun. spoiler[After the introduction of Legato Bluesummers, everything falls apart. It becomes really formulaic with "baddie of the week," and they fight stronger and stronger members of the enemy syndicate until the boss is reached, the boss is fought, the boss loses, the end. Vash's backstory is pretty much the only thing worthwhile from there on out.] |

Also Trigun came before FMA, so if anything FMA stole that one, but really it is just a coincidence. Edit: Also don't worry, you get to know wolfwood. |

Oh no I wasn't saying that FMA stole from Trigun, I am just saying its kinda funny how these characters start in the middle of a desert and yet both are wearing long sleeve, pants, and big over coats. Like you said its just a funny coincidence.
 hehe thanks so far to those who have posted, also if do plan on putting spoiler make sure to state how far they go so someone doesn't read something that might spoil it for them.

Yeah, Wolfwood is great, isn't he? It's hard not to say much more about him without giving too much away, but suffice it to say that he ends up having a huge impact on both Vash and us.
To paraphrase your average western, thar be rough territory ahead. Things take a 100 degree turn and get very dark before the end of the series. Prepare yourself. I've since seen better series, and I don't really consider it a classic as a whole. But it does have one unforgettable scene (everyone who's seen it will know what I mean) that would still be on my list of greatest anime moments, and it's a better-than-average anime that I feel everyone should see once and of which I have fond memories as one of my gateway series. |

There is much enjoyment to be had with Trigun. In fact, there isn't a single episode I didn't like. The characters are all fantastic and the drama mixed with action and comedy sets it apart from other series that lean too much toward one but not the others, like FMA for instance which is basically drama the whole way through with maybe some comedy every five episodes. I thought the story was rather good and kept me interested in the show, and the drama, action, and comedy are just what drove me through to the end, satisfied and very entertained.
The series is just enjoyable on so many levels, I can't help but crown it my favorite, as it is the one I enjoyed the most out of every series I've see (and that's a lot). |

I´m not sure where volume 3 leaves off, but I can honestly say I didn´t like the first half of Trigun. The jokes just didn´t have any impact on me and I felt there was not enough action. I was about to give up, until around episode 12, where he fights the purple dude, where the series finally gave me what I wanted, gun blazing action.
The second half is much more different than the first, but that´s not a let down. It still has some ¨funny¨ moments but a lot more action. Sorry I talked about the second half, but i just had to get that off my chest. I don´t think I gave away anything, I hope to ruin such a great series for you, and by great I mean the second half  .

At first this show was really god, but over time it started to go down hill, The humor in the show really gets old later. Vash started to anoy me. I just lost intrest. But I must say it is pretty original. -Curtis |

Ok so I finally got another three volumes (Go Netflix) of trigun, so now I have seen vol 1-vol 6. Anyways so I finally see what everyone is talking about with this series. It definetly is the tale of two cities. Oh dropping literature on ya.......back to the series.
Please Note spoiler go through episode 19, or vol 6. spoiler[Well all I know I am actually into the series, I really like how Vash has committed himself to Knives and taking him down. I am glad that we finally got to see Vash and his back story, and not to mention also who that lady was in his dreams. But as much as I like the I refuse to kill anyone mind state of Vash I just got this weird feeling that unlike Kenshin he isn't able to keep his promise to himself. Also after losing the insurance girls for sometime it was making me a bit sad, as much as they are an annoyance they really do bring that next level to Vash and make him Human. ] Quick question for the manga fans of this series, ok so there is Trigun, and Trigun Maximum. So where does the series follow the manga up to? Or does it finish the entire manga? Till next time, Delta Kiral |

I don't know much about the Trigun manga, but I just wanted to say right away that Trigun and Trigun Maximum are actually the same manga, but the title had to be changed 3 (?) volumes in because of copyright issues.
Also, I do believe from what I've heard that the manga goes into greater depth with characters, primarily the Gunho Guns (not sure if you've gotten to them yet in the series, but you soon will). I don't know what other differences there are however. |

As someone else pointed out, Maximum is a continuation. The manga's still going in Japan. IIRC, roughly half the anime loosely follows the manga. The basic storyline stays the same up until just after the deal with the moon. However, the anime isn't 100% faithful. That scene itself is quite different. Most of the Gung-Ho Guns' motives and exits have changed. Knives does a lot more. There's more, but I'm a little rusty on my Trigun knowledge. ^^; |

So finally netflix gets me the last two volumes (stupid no mail on holidays, my work never closes ever) and wow. I can't believe this series turn around so quickly in such a negative light. At one point I remember thinking I was at anti-death penalty rally, for crying out loud what the hell. Anywho spoiler for the entire series spoiler[So once they kill off Nicholas it really hard to care about anything that happens in this series. I know this is a story about Vash and everything he ends up doing but damn this story was getting old fast. New gung ho gun every episode, Vash: "I beat you it over, no more bloodshed" Gung ho: "I will kill myself now" 'Bang' Vash: "I failed I couldn't save him." Didn't anyone else feel this way, even with the great back story episode deciated to Knife and Vash once the finally battle begins I don't care all that much. Not only that Knife is only in this series for what seems like 20 mins total. Hell his #1 go to guy was my favorite villian, and once Vash killed him so did the series. And back to the death issue can't kill someone no matter what they have done, it makes me feel like I am back in my first year of college in adovacy and arguement. ] In the long run Trigun was a decent, things really changed way too fast in this series, it's almost as if a different team work on the last 8 or so episodes. Well it wasn't a complete waste like Gregory horror house I was also recieveing from netflix. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

You need to watch the last episode more closely since spoiler[Knives didn't die at the end, he's being carried by Vash he's just unconcious.]
Trigun is a good series but a little over rated on reputation. The first 5 episodes of the series are hilarious and the show feels so fresh. I didn't like the 2nd half of the series, i usually like it when shows become more serious in tone but it just felt so forced and unnatural. I also upset by the fact spoiler[Rem was dead]. With better execution Trigun could have been a masterpiece. |

I loved this show, it was the first series I ever bought (and the first lesson I ever got on "bootleg" and "buying anime on Ebay is bad" kinda thing) in its whole. I'll admit that I was a little dissapointed with the fight between Knives and Vash, here you had these 2 beyond spoiler[human] guys fighting it out and to me it looked more like a regular shoot out from most other animes. Minus the whole spoiler[giant guns comming from thier arms stuff].
I too was very upset of the death ofspoiler[woolfwood], this is a guy that could easily had gotten his own series! My only hope is that maybe they decide to do a sequal sometime in the future and we find out that spoiler[the insurance girl Wolfwood spend the night with ends up having his kid]. Good stuff, on my top 10 fav animes list for sure. |
