Oh, wow, I love this movie!!! I am so happy to see that it will be dubbed. Buena Vista also makes quality dubs so I don't think I will be cringing when I hear it. I have been waiting hopefully for this movie to be released in the U.S.A. and it looks like my wait will finally end. lalalala

I absolutely agree. I think, of all the Ghibli films, that Whisper of the Heart is my favorite. Why did Yoshifumi Kondô have to die?
I have to admit I was wondering if Disney would ever release it... seems like they've been sitting on this forever. Well, good thing it's coming out. Then again, the dub for Laputa was finished for a long time before they ever released the DVD. Here's hoping they don't do the same thing with Whisper.

I love this movie. I think the parts about translating Country Roads into Japanese will come across as being kind of odd in an English language version, though.

how come Disney hasn't been putting more work on releasing Ghibli stuff? anyone know how many they own that haven't come out on DVD yet? or that they dubbed and aren't out on DVD? have they dubbed Nausicaa yet? I was just thinking about how little Ghibli I've seen.
wouldn't ya think that they could use Spirited Away's Oscar as marketing for they other stuff?
the only thing they seem to be doing is direct to videos sequels.

I don't have any numbers to back this up, but I suspect that even the most successful anime release doesn't generate near the money that even one of the worst of their own direct to video shows for Disney. My guess is that Disney is making most of their money on the Ghibli deal from their Japanese releases, and the English and other foreign language releases are just icing on the cake.

That sounds about right. Of course, now that Disney is killing their 2-D animation, it'll probably be doubly hard to get the other movies, especially the older ones. I suspect that Disney will turn around and break off their agreement with Ghibli. They're just biding their time until Miyazaki dies. My chances of seeing Porco Rosso being dubbed are fleeting.

Actually, you should be able to find a Porco Rosso dub fairly easily. The film was made for airline flights and was dubbed into several languages when it was originally made.
