I want to get a discussion going on what you think is the ultimate fanservice anime. I have read a few comments lately about how fanservice ruins a series and I wanted to turn it around and maybe get some positives out of it.
I have a broad range of tastes when it comes to anime. I enjoy the classics, the philosophical, psycological, suspense and romantic emo-inducing anime. But often I just want to watch something that makes me giggle and doesn't turn my brain inside out. I didn't want to necro-post on a thread like this one, which really didn't fit in with what I'm after, so I decided to start something new. ANN's lexicon has this definition of fanservice. For the ultimate fanservice title (at least that I have seen) I have a runner-up as well. I don't really like mecha series (they have their own form of fanservice in the excessive battles and outlandish mecha designs!) but to be honest, I really get into Godannar. Why? For the fanservice! Godannar is my runner-up for the ultimate fanservice title. It has the extreme giant fighting robots, the chara interact in such a way as to be just over-the-top emotional, and, oh, the fanservice! The ultimate fanservice title for me has to be Plastic Little. This OVA was made for the sole purpose of being a celebration of animation and it still manages to somewhat maintain a plot. Practicaly a whole quarter of the video is a bath scene! What is your ultimate fanservice title and why? Keep in mind that hentai is hentai, not fanservice. |

Whether or not fan service "ruins" a title depends entirely on the title and how it's used. There are some titles where the use of fan service is purely an annoying distraction (Divergence Eve, which is actually a pretty good sci-fi horror series without it) but there are other cases where it fits in well enough to be an enhancement or even feature.
Plastic Little certainly ranks pretty high on the fan service scale but there are titles that are higher still. Here are the top five that I'm aware of: Ikki Tousen - Although allegedly a martial arts anime, the fights are really just an excuse for clothes to get torn off female characters in what is basically one endless fan service parade. It has almost no actual nudity, but there are scenes strongly suggestive of sexual arousal. If there's another series out there more jam-packed with fan service, I have not seen it. Mahoromatic - Now here's an example of a series which still manages a good and heartfelt story despite being packed with fan service. Notorious for the amount of nudity it serves up for series anime, with barely an episode passing without some. Najica Blitz Tactics - I don't think it's physically possible to make a series which panders more to panty fetishes and crotch shots. In the first episode alone I counted more than 70 distinct panty shots (yes, I went back and watched the episode a second time just to count), and that's without counting separately multiple character revealing their panties in one shot. Golden Boy actually has worthwhile storytelling, too, to go along with being packed with very sexy fan service. Wins a spot on this list as much for for quality of fan service as for frequency. Colorful certainly fits into this category on frequency, although whether its content actually counts as fan service is nebulous since the entire point and substance of the series is short bits about different ways guys ogle women. Amongst movies, you could probably throw in Wicked City as a prime example of fan service. Edit: Damn, I keep thinking of extra titles to add in. I'm still a little confused about the actual word "fan-service". But I think most of us generalize it with panty shots and other "sexy" scenes. With that said...
I would like to nominate Golden Boy. This series was full of "pleasing" scenes. I'm not a huge fan of nudity and other sexual related events taking place in the anime I watch, but Golden Boy still kept me interested because I wanted to see what situation he would get into next, not who the next eye-candy would be. Fan-service up the wazoo, and yet there was more to this show. Golden Boy is my ultimate fanservice title. |

Well, after truely understanding what the term fan service means. I would think that in my opinion that Maburaho, is my "ultimate fan service title". I mean the show tries to do everything to please the viewer. Well thats just my opinion anyway. Thanks and Laters.

So Gecko, do we count also the extra bounces females characters get from their breasts? Well, in any case, I don't think I have watched anything that would count as high as yours or Key's. Wow, 70 panties in what? 22 minutes? That's 3 panties per minute! Gosh, must have been really windy that day.
I think if Maburaho used any other word but "genes" it would have counted as fan service. |

Really? Apparently, Theron, you haven't seen Agent Aika yet. That series has twice as many panty shots than NBT. Not surprising that both series were directed by the same person (Katsuhiko Nishijima) and produced by the same studio (Fantasia); it's obvious that this guy definitely has a panty fetish. Protoculture Addicts praised that Agent Aika had "the most panties we have ever seen". The seven-episode OVA (which came out before NBT and is licensed by CPM) basically has the same plot as NBT, but plays more on the comedic side than NBT, especially in the last three episodes of the OAV. So I will say that Agent Aika is my ultimate fan service anime series. |

Since I love comedies, I've watched quite a few ecchi series, and almost always laugh at the jokes everytime, even if they're unoriginal and somewhat bland to others, as I have a pretty broad sense of humour.
One of My personal ultimate fanservice titles (& one of my guilty pleasures) is DearS. While the concept was odd and it wasn't anything special, I loved it. Ren was soooo cute. ![]() BTW, I believe fanservice doesn't apply solely to pantyshots and overexaggurated breasts, no? |

Definately. And Maburaho still counts due to the excessive advances of Kuriko!
Ah, but I once saw the box set for NBT and it came with a pair of panties!
Right. Excessive sexual tension and innuendo fits as well. Since Golden Boy was mentioned (a fovorite) I should also include the ever silly sexy Eiken. That has to hold the most oversized breasts outside of a hentai title! As for other forms of fanservice, don't forget the extended CGI shots of starships and the like. |

Umm...the one where all of the characters have sex with all of the other characters, and then they all blow up in a hugely dramatic explosion of epic proportions.

I haven't seen too many shows that contain massive fanservice.
Of the shows that I've seen, I'll nominate Shuffle! for most fanservice. First of all, the idea of lots of girls and one guy itself is nothing more than fanservice. In Shuffle! there was like one of every type of girl, even one with flat chest. After like episode 12, the show turned into 14+ rating and showed boobs and lots of underwear. Oh yea, there were some magic using too. |

I'll agree with Key and give the nod to Ikki Tousen as well. I've only seen the first episode, currently at least, and I'd have to say the fanservice can be summed up in one word: "shameless." The series was designed around panty shots and all that, even the concept: it's got martial arts, which has high kicking (usually); then you've got an entire cast of females who wear short skirts; and what do you get when you've got girls in skirts who like to deliver high kicks?
I also just saw Labyrinth of Flames. It was an OK series, nothing spectacular; but it had some decent use of fanservice. "Decent" as in it wasn't over-the-top or overly excessive. |

Ichigo 100%. There were more panty shots and "accidents" than I would liked to have seen. I don't think I've seen that many even in series like Love Hina. Plus, half of the things that happen are just inviting in more fanservice (guy and girl get locked in a closet together, guy finds panties in girl's house, guy and girl get lost in the forest and seek shelter together while being soaked from the rain and "forced" to huddle together for warmth).

I'd like to nominate the awsomeness that is Magipoka as my ultimate fanservice anime. So far every episode has made me laugh quite thoroughly and contained very copisous amounts of fan service. The characters (shy android with glasses, sexy catgirl, childish magical girl and horny loli-ish vampire) are literally every single fanservice cliche stufed into one show and yet they are all very likeable and the whole thing is just all around fun.
Excellent show ^^ |
