I was really satisfied with the way the series reached its climax and concluded most of its stuff. The final conflicts are pretty good, especially Miroku and Sango's.
"Tooi Michi no Saki de" must be the best choice of music used for the last episodes. The lyrics basically talk about a long journey that' it's reaching the end.

Now for the big question: would this be worth forking money on if you had read the manga?
Reason I say this is because the later chapters of the series in the manga suffered quite a bit in repetitious developments with Naraku and his minions, plus the many power upgrades (well it's technically weapon upgrades, but still a flaw nonetheless) that many characters got for the remainder of the series. Not to mention the resolution to the manga looked a wee bit rushed as well.

Another big question: I saw InuYasha on TV, and then stopped following it after 50+ episodes. Would I be able to follow The Final Act?

No not all. The Final Act takes place right after the original with no flashbacks or anything. It assumes you've seen the other episodes.

This series is a lot faster-paced than the manga, cramming over 20 volumes' worth of story in just 26 episodes and trimming a lot of fat, which makes it feel less repetitive, although its first half is terribly rushed. Also, the last episode delivers something the manga failed to: Kagome and Inuyasha's first kiss.

That achievement goes to the second movie but the tv series probably wins anyway since it has romance.

I find the anime slightly tedious after reading the manga, reason being that a volume of Inuyasha takes < 30 minutes to read, and you can quickly skip through the repetitive dialogue about the "poison insects" and "midoriko's will".

I admit I've never watched the movies, but I always assumed they didn't fit the TV series' continuity.

That settles it. Final Act is going on my list. I have to finish InuYasha. I can't take this delaying any longer.

I just finished watching it this past weekend. Loved it! After losing track of the anime around the time the seven bandits arc ended, this was a welcome reminder of why I fell in love with the series to begin with.

They actually do, or at least they don't contradict the series' continuity in the way that the Bleach movies do. Of course they aren't manga canon, but then again niether was at about 1/3 of the TV show. Each movie is consistent with the power upgrades each character has in the series at the time each movie came out.
Still haven't watched the new series, as I said in the previous volume's review's forum, I'm rewatching the original series just so I can remember everything going into the new series. I did read the rest of the manga and loved it. I do hope the show didn't have to cut too much manga material out.

there are two copies of this on ebay for under 10$ right now
though the price may go up
inuyasha started to suck when it turned into this sadistic kill the monster of the week crap. Though I still hold the first season in high regard.

Wait what about Rinne? It may be in the land of filler but the characters are the opposite of the typical Rumiko stereotypes.
