Dance Revolution (previously titled Dance, Dance, Dance!), a live-action television series inspired by Konami’s hit video game franchise Dance Dance Revolution® (DDR).

A cartoon seemed weird at first, if one was ever created it would probably about a kid who wants to be a "DDR Master", maybe just like his father, and a long trip where he/she learns new moves and always manages to beat the competition. Maybe a little drama by having our hero start off kind of bad because something is on his mind but halfway through the song they are overcome by the power of friendship and end up winning in the end...

But I guess it's just another attempt by America to get out kids active, like it states in the article... but is the best way really to make a show about it? I wonder how many kids will actually have access to a DDR machine or something similar?

I think it'll be fun to watch, especially if it's live action and we can watch awesome kids go crazy on Heavy. Usually you have to go to the mall to watch that kind of stuff.

Dance Revolution will also offer onscreen visuals that constantly encourage viewer participation by demonstrating specific dance moves and steps.

“We are thrilled to partner with Konami to create a program that will entertain kids of all ages, and get them motivated, active and off the couch,” comments Andy Heyward, Chairman & CEO of DIC Entertainment.

A couple of things I want to note. First, while it may be inspired by DDR, it sounds more like a You Got Served TV series for kids. I'm pretty sure kids won't be in front of DDR or similar machines. Now as far as onscreen visuals (this may be the DDR part), are the arrows going to come onto the screen and friends and family can copy the moves via that method? It would be rather interesting to see. Not that it doesn't make sense but I find it humorous that this will be a family show (all kinds of mixed ideas come into my head from various tween live action shows from back in the day). Also for the second statement I quoted, I just find that funny too because it says to me "We want to get them active and off the couch but be sure to get back on it for our show." Then again, this possible series to be is aiming for an interactive approach. In any case if for nothing else but laughs it'll definitley be worth at least one viewing.

Ahem... "Mom, can I have a DDR pad? Can I have a DDR pad? Can I have a DDR pad? Can I have a DDR pad?"

Continue for 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat as desired.

There are DDR games for the various gaming systems out there, and the cheap pads (which cruddy players like me use) are cheaper than the games themselves often enough. While it might not be accessible to those in the lower level of the economy (speaking from a US point-of-view), it wouldn't be terribly hard for a middle-class 'tween or teen to land a DDR pad and game if they enjoy the show. And personally, I'm all for anything that gets people off their couches. Plus, it's fun for the parents too. I've known quite a few kids that DDR with their parents for added enjoyment. They get to make fun of their parents to their friends, and the parents get to feel that they're bonding with their kids. Bonuses for everyone involved. ^_-

I don't think a pad would be nessesary to "play along" with the TV show. When I play DDR, I usually have a friend on the controls and I just dance on the floor. I have a crappy pad, like the $20 kind mentioned in another post, but I keep forgetting to turn it off after I'm done and I have to replace the batteries a lot so I just do without it. I think it's more fun this way, since I can mess up the whole song and I'll still get an "A", so I don't have to worry about my fragile self-esteem being crushed. Imagine how many crying kids across American there'd be if the show rated them and they failed every song!
