After recently watching Final Fantasy: TSW recently I was thinking what it would be like to have an actual show that looked like that. It would be so cool to watch Mugen kick ass in computer graphic greatness. I was thinking about what animes' I would love to see in CG form. I know it is HIGHLY unlikely of it ever happening but tell me what shows you think would be awesome in CG.

I think it would be better if the shows weren't super-cartoony. Like, it would be wierd watching Naruto in CG because I couldn't picture the characters looking lifelike. I think Samurai Champloo would be so badass in CG! Well, post your thoughts and what shows you think would be awesome when done with computer graphics.

An all CG anime series would be really cool but I think that it would cost more to make than the 2D anime. It would also take longer to make a series because of all the progamming needed to make CG. If they would make a series all CG, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex would be really cool, partially because they have the opening of season one in CG. The artwork was really well done and the characters were very well animated. Plus the characters of GitS:SAC would look really slick in CG.

They have a lot of all CG shows, but to your definition they wouldn't be anime. I wouldn't like the idea of taking Samurai Champloo and turning it CG, it would ruin the originals good name in my opinion.

Plus it would take much longer to create an episode, I'm sure.

Animated. In Japan. Yep, anime.

Advent Children, Galerians, Mobile Suit Gundam: MS IGLOO, they all fit the definition of "animated productions produced principally out of Japan." What should it matter that they're modeled in CG? They're still Japanese animation. Therefore, they're still anime.

Why are you people so uptight and serious? Who cares about "omg it will take to long to make an episode". I'm not being serious. The point of this is what anime you think would be cool if it were CG. God, you people sometimes...

Hey, people CG stands for Computer Graphics, and most modern anime could probably qualify as CG. What you guys are propably talking about is 3D animation, and yes there are 3D animes. The short film Kakurenbo is in 3D, as is the series Funny Pets. And there are tons of anime that are 2D/3D hybrids, like Steamboy and GITS SAC.

I thought the Samurai Champloo videogame trailer looked a little CG-ish...

Personally, I like the cartoony look. I wouldn't re-do any series totally in CG. I did like the visuals in Advent Children, but I feel that if you have too many like it, the appeal will wear off quickly.

Besides, all of my favorite series rely on the exaggurated aspects. They'd just look strange in a realistic, CG form.

Though I admit, the Eva units and angels would look awesome.

Cost is seriously not a issue. Infact CG is being used more and more, because it is actually a cheaper alternative than hand drawn. I think the poster is more interested in 3D render as the point of this discussion, and what series might be made better if it were done in 3D render.

Well on a technical standpoint I think Dragonball Z might look very nice in 3D render. Seeing as the series ended up with alot of washover, and black lines denoteing fast movement. Might be interesting seeing one of those battles in 3D render most definately the fights would seem alot more intense. Now the quality of the series storyline might be a question. Since dragonballs story is very weak. So you have to ask what would be the point of redoing a series merely for fight scene animation.

My personal choice though would have to be Crystania. I would love to see those characters doing some rendered morphing, and the world always seemed pretty barren to me. I think a 3D render of that might make the movie, and the series much more interesting, and atleast more fun to get into.

I'm not a big fan of CGI films. I don't even know where to place Appleseed and Final Fantasy AC in my anime collection, currently they are the beginning not mixed with my other anime.

I'm surprised you had this thought while watching FF TSW, I wonder what you would have written if you had just watched Advent Children.

Although I liked how FF AC and Appleseed looked, I felt they both lacked story. What good is an anime without a story? Some people might not care but I do. Once a CG movie, 3D realistic characters, is created with a great story, I might start liking it.

Now I'm consfused, maybe I would like it, but maybe I won't. In reality I shouldn't comment since I'm more of a "seeing is believing" type of person. Samurai Champloo a la FF AC sounds sexy, but would the character development and story itself remain in-tact without harming the animation?

It will never work. Think of it keeping in mind the director and producer. If you ask them they will tell you that its not so much difficult making CGI anime, its more difficult making money out of it.
Final Fantasy: TSP and AC made so much money (i am assuming here) since practicaly every soul wants to see such high rate graphics but for a tv show its completely different.

Besides merchandising will be more difficult, since last time i checked 3D images suck on back packs, pencil cases and shirts.

Oh come on, the idea that "it would take too long" is a stupid idea.

If the Canucks can do it with ReBoot, then why not the Japanese??

I know that Transformers is kinda half-animated and half-computer generated. Although a lot of times when I see CG anime credits most of the staff are Korean.
