So a friend and I just skipped our senior prom to have a Mobile Suit Gundam marathon. We watched all 42 episodes of the series, only leaving the room during the opening/ending themes (to use the restroom). The marathon began at 7:40 Saturday morning and wrapped up at around 12:50 Sunday morning (about 17 hours). Bear in mind, we didn't pause once during the entire marathon.

So, I am wondering if anyone else out there has tried and/or succeded in your own anime marathons. Have a good story, share it.

Personally, the marathons I partake in are 13 episodes or less, I skip forward on intros, outros, and episode previews. At approximatly 20 minutes each episode, it's about 4 hours and 30 minutes. I'll do these on nights when I'm bored or my girlfriend is working.

Sometimes I don't even reach that many episodes because I begin to get tired, specially if it's a re-run marathon. I used to be able to in High School though so you better have enjoyed it and the next month or so of school because trust me when I say you have no time for that when you get out of High school... unless you decide not to go to college and stay home and die alone. Well, not alone if you get your friend to join you again.

Your wit is simply priceless.
Nonetheless, I am the friend of Master_J's who also took part in this Gundam marathon. It's a lot of fun- I suggest you all try it... unless your dignity does not permit.

God, I envy you guys! Us old people who have to go to work can't Marathon like that. Actually, I don't think I was able to do that when I was your age. Hmm, old before my time?

For me a marathon usually consists of 3 to 4 discs of 3 or 4 episodes each. Like joel, I skip the intros, endings and previews, but not any omake if there are any (Saiyuki Reload for example).

It's difficult since I have work, things to do around the house or errands to run. But it is kind of nice to be able to sit on my butt and just watch anime for a few hours. Cool

Wow, just simply amazing. My family's been discussing a LOTR's marathon but it won't happen till the summer. The only anime marathon I think I could do is either a Ghibli marathon, a Kiddy Grade marathon, or a Fruits Basket marathon. I think my sister would love to join me for the last one, she loves Fruits Basket.

I had a Bleach marathon with a couple of friends last summer. We watched the first 12 eps in a row without stopping.

This is when I first heard of Bleach too. Now it's one of my fave series. Smile

I would like to apologize for promoting going to college Rolling Eyes. Seriously, it was a joke and wasn't meant to offend anyone. I assume you were being sarcastic by calling my wit "priceless".

so I replied.

Do marathons only count if you watch every single episode? One day me and a friend watched Initial D, but we skipped all the talking and forwarded to just the races.

In my opinion, yes; but I understand everyone has their own "rules" for marathons. The way my friend and I do them is: no pausing, no skipping openings/endings/previews, no leaving the room except during openings/endings. So when we do marathons, we watch every episode in that series.

Prom's overrated anyway.

I hardly do marathons, I simply do not have the time even when I was in High School. There will be times when I'll watch about 5 episodes in a day, but I try to avoid doing that because then I tend to forget a lot of the stuff.

I tried doing a Gungrave marathon this morning actually... [OT] I got in a serious fight with my gf and was the first time we almost broke up, but we're still together but she worked at 4am this morning and I wanted to kill time while I waited for her to get out... and didn't get past episode 7. I watched opening, endings and the previews. I love the intro song, the ending if meh but gave me time to pee and get drinks or junk food, and the preview quotes are just awesome. I highly recommend this to be marathoned by people who like mafia movies, although I admit I lost interest in the series once the flashback ended.

[OT] PROM was probably lame anyway if he skipped it. By "skip", did you go and then leave? I remember my Junior PROM was at a stupid place in town so we all took pictures, and then went bowling in our Tuxedos and Dresses, I had a tuxedo in case you guys were wondering. But my senior was un-ditchable. It was on a cruise ship on a 3 to 4 hour cruise in San Francisco. Each level of the ship had a different school, but no one guarding the door so we had fun hooking up with girls we'd never see again. There was also no ban on smoking which tripped me out since PROM and all other school related events normally enforce school rules. My Senior Prom was really fun though because we danced all night, and didn't even have to take dates.

rofl, "marathons" of 13 episodes or less... I had always considered myself to kinda middle road fandom, maybe slightly more into it than most, but clearly I was wrong.

The most episodes I've seen in a single sitting was Naruto my friend made me sit down and watch the first 6 at least to see if I was interested, and no surprise I was. So we watched the next 42 episodes until it occured to me that the sun had come up a long time ago. Another thing to note here was that we only slept for like 6 hours then we got up and watched the next 18 eps until eps 66 where the series was currently at. I had to wait a week for EVERY ONE OF THOSE EPISODES Anime cry first time i've had to do that, it's infuriating to no end for a show like that.

Usually I wouldn't even consider something a "marathon" unless it included at LEAST 10 episodes, 18ish isn't uncommon for me though Confused . That's probably because when I first start watching a show, I can get REALLY into it.

Example was monster from last week: I had seen the first 3 eps a long time ago, and thought it was "meh" but the reviews I read made me give it a second chance. Long story short I sat and watched eps 1-26 (I didn't have any more since that was all that was included in the torrent).
