Okay, I've watched Vision of Escaflowne several times now and one thing has always confused me.

Was Emperor Dornkirk of Zaibach spoiler[the scientist Newton?] Or was he just your uber scientist of the 17th/18th centuries.

I've never quite figured it out, sorry if this seems stupid but I've just got to ask.

Thanks!

Yes, he was spoiler[Sir Isaac Newton], you are correct. It's based somewhat around the fact that Newton spent a great deal of his life actually pursuing alchemy which was looked upon along the lines of witchcraft by people in those days.

I didn't think it was that rushed, everything was coming together and it took a good 3 episodes to do it. spoiler[They were toying with fate, literally, it was only appropriate it all finally spun together the way it did, especially with the activation of Dornkirk's machine.]

I have to agree with Keonyn. I don't think that the ending was rushed. It ended just the way it should. With everyone re-building and growing up and Hitomi spoiler[being smart and giving up fortune-telling.]

Heh, it's always been so much fun for me to watch people watching Escaflowne for the first time as they figure out some of the plot twists. I'm sure I was just as amusing to watch, or would have been, had I not been watching the series by myself at the time.

As far as the ending goes, while I like it just fine the way it is, I can see what you mean by it feeling somewhat rushed. I know there are plenty of things where all the elements do come together like that, but I think that an extra ten to thirteen episodes would have really helped the pacing there at the end, if only because the pace increased rather dramatically in the last few episodes of the series.
