I was wondering if watching anime drunk makes anyone think that it’s better. For example, baseball drunk is way better then not. So how do people feel about the way the story is told, how the characters develop, how the animation is drawn, ect... ect... when they have had a few to drink as apposed to being sober. Please tell me what you think.
As for me, I hate it! I can’t read the subtitles and the things that I can read I don’t actually comprehend, but I do like the animation a lot better when I am drunk. |

Right now, I am drunk so I'll be able to give you a true to life account.
When I'm drunk, I don't forcus on the words, or the deeper meanings of the context. I focus on what I can see. If there is no crazy action going on, I['m going to get bored. When I'm sober, I can watch anime and understand it's deeper meaninings. To understand and appreciate anime, it has to be sober. Watching it drunk is kind of dumb. Mostly because if your drunk, you should be spending more time chatting it up with girls than trying to watch the latest episode of One Piece or Naruto. One Piece kicks so much ass by the way. It's so awesome but I digress. If your drunk and watching anime, stop right now and either go to sleep and sober up for tomorrow, or please, go out and talk to a girl you would never otherwise talk to sober. That way, you show that you have more balls. \ Thank, and good night. |

Weird topic but I´ll give it a go.
The only thing I´ve seen while impaired was My Neighbor Totoro and I thought it was really good... but then I saw it sober and I thought it was really boring. Not enough Totoro but the Cat Bus was still really cool. I haven´t seen any other anime drunk, but there is a party tomorrow and I´m not driving so I´ll let you know. I´m thinking of watching FFVII AC but I hope the fast paced movements and quick change of camera angles doesn´t have a negative effect. |

How wierd; last Saturday I got a bit drunk and watched Adult Swim, though I wasn't completely smashed, in fact I all I had was a buzz, but I didn't find any real difference while I watched. I guess it would first depend on how drunk I am, and then on what anime it is. As said before a little buzz doesn't alter anything significantly, but the more drunk I get the less my attention span gets. So I'd be focused much less on the characters and dialogue, and much more on the visuals, like the fight scenes and character designs. I don't think being drunk enhances anime watching, but it might make watching the fighting and stuff a new experience, in a sense.
And always remember to drink responsibly. |

I've watched quite a bit of anime under the influence, and I can say that I feel it actually enhances the experience of certain shows. Try getting a healthy buzz while watching a silly comedy like Azumanga Daioh, and it gets even funnier. Or with a fun action series like Hellsing. I've even found watching a tragic drama such as Saikano is good when you've got a buzz going, as alcohol is somewhat conducive to histrionic fits of emotion. |

I agree with both of these. I think it is a matter of being drunk or buzzed. Another factor is the type of show and the type of personality type you are. So I would say it is not a good idea to watch smashed. Buzzed? Well that depends on you. But if you do you may be drinking durring the show. And you may be way more drunk at the end, then you were if you had a buzz in the beginning, therefore would be smashed. I myself have had one to many libations, and found I really had to watch it all over again to appreciate what happened. Which is fine if you have the Digital Versatile Disc. But if you are counting on TV, well who knows when that episode is coming back on. I also have had good experiences with a buzz on. So, I think it is really a matter of how much, and preference. |

I'm not sure about the effect of alcohol, but I have noticed that even the corniest of jokes sound funny when I'm so tired I should be going to sleep. So comedies tend to feature heavily in my midnight mix.

For me, the only time anime and alcohol mix is when you are playing one of those drinking games. I have only done this a couple of times and well it is quite fun. However, it isn't something I would recommend for anyone who is seriously trying to watch something. Especially for the first time. I have never actually watched anime drunk, without playing one of these games. Like for example (in case you didn't know what I was talking about.) Take a drink everytime Shinji(Eva) says, "I must not run away..." etc. Its quite interesting because, well because it's lots of fun. The few times I have done this, with some friends, we would pick different characters and sayings to take a drink.

Nah... When you're drunk, things mostly lose their sense. I should know. I'm not a heavy drinker (and I'm legally an adult so don't bother me) but the only time I got drunk and saw anime, I didn't understand it much. Don't remmeber what I watched, though.

Well, anime and alcohol are two of my three main vices, and I have a personal rule not to mix my vices. So, I don't often watch anime drunk (because I'd rather be putting the liquid courage to use talking to random girls who may or may not be young enough to know my 18 y/o sister from school
  ). But, the few times I have, it's been roughly equal to watching anime while tired--it's harder to stay awake and follow things, but everything's more emotionally powerful. I'm no stranger to crying over anime, but when drunk/tired, I sometimes end up doing so for events that normally wouldn't have that much effect. I should try watching something really devastating, like episode 8 of Fruits Basket, the next time I'm drunk...that would be quite the experiment.

AAH how funny i was just watching samurai champloo, and advent children drunk last night!! well for me its draws me in more to the art, and i even get alittle bit more into it with the characters, hah i totally tie myself in, and just go off..so for me yea i guess i like it occasionally, sometimes even high. im not much of a smoker though.

Advent Children sober sucks. I watched it while stoned, and it was cool, everything seemed to move really different, it was awesome. but drunk i have yet to watch anything cause i only drink at parties... |

I've never watched anime drunk, but I've watched TV and gone to the movies drunk before, which I imagine is a pretty similar experience. I really don't like it that much. It becomes very difficult to keep up with what's actually happening. For instance, I saw Starsky and Hutch a few years ago while I was really drunk, and I had no idea what was going on. Saw it again later on, sober, and realized it's not exactly a complex movie. Generally I just have an extremely short attention span when I'm drunk, so I just can't watch things like that. And besides, when I'm drunk, I'd much rather be up and causing a ruckus than sitting around watching TV anyway.

I don't think I'd enjoy anime drunk since alcohol severly affects your vision and the artwork wouldn't seem the same yet alone trying to read the subtitles. I took an eye exam once after two beers and was astonished at how much worse my vision really was.
It's a null point for me though. Out of all the recreational drugs, alcohol is the one I can't handle. If you want to know what anime is like while high on marijuana, I like it a lot  as long as it's something that can hold my attention with either a good plot or lots of action. Otherwise I'm usualy asleep in 20 minutes.
