got comments on Lupin the Third? post them here! good or bad? don't care!

personaly, i very much enjoyed the many diffferent bits of the series. i have never seen the whole series, but i still don't mind any comments that aren't super spoiling.

Lupin the Third!

[EDIT: Changed the topic title to be a bit more specific. I would lock this since you're being so broad over a series you haven't even seen in its entirety, but the replies look good so far, and I do think Lupin is a bit under the radar, myself, so this is good exposure. -TK]

Lupin is very under-rated here in the US. I really wish it would have done better. For some reason, it's a series that never really gets old. Zenigata's always after Lupin (and they team up in just about every single movie), Lupin's always gonna be chasing Fujiko as well as his next big job, Jigen's always got a smart mouth, Fujiko's your standard double crossing femme fatale, and Goemon's always gonna be a traditional samurai. Even though none of these things change it's always fun to just sit down and watch a new Lupin adventure (heck even some of the old ones). I'm really disappointed though that FUNimation gets most of the movies. The VAs sound more like they try to imitate Pioneer's dub (and the guy who does Zenigata on the Pioneer dub is great...although I like everyone on that dub track). It's unfortunate but older series in general just don't catch on here in the US.

Lupin the 3rd is a classic that is smart, witty and funny.Having plots that seem kind of odd, but never fail to disappoint. Fujiko is one double crossing hoo-hah, but she has Lupin right where she wants him in the fact that he'll forgive her every time. I think the Jigen-Lupin relationship is like Luffy-Zolo. They can like read each other's minds and if Lupin says something, then Jigen will follow. As for Goemon, he'll never miss his mark. Why? Because that sword of his is unbreakable. And last but not least, who could forget about Zenigata? The man who has devoted his life to nothing else but the capture of Lupin. And in the end no matter what kind of traps are laid, Lupin always slips through and leaves Zenigata in the dust. Seeing him getting mad is always amusing.

Well, I'm sorry to be so vague, since it's been awhile since I've seen the series, but I'm almost positive that his spoiler[sword did break in half at least once. I want to say it was when he tried to cut open the egg shaped safe.] Also, his spoiler[sword has gotten chipped up several times, usually to his surprise.]

I agree with TranceLimit. I really wish that Lupin had done better here (among other series, but that's another subject). It's just something fun to watch. I wonder if it had updated animation and looked more like the current stuff if it would had done better...

My favorite episode was 'ZenigataCon'. Man, that episode just does not get old for me. I've seen it countless times. The title didn't click until the second time I saw it. Without getting into spoilers, again, suffice it to say, if you've seen it, you can probably guess what scene I like. It seems like it's one of the few episodes I keep running into during it's runs on Adult Swim.

"Crap, crap, crap!" Laughing

Gotta have my Pops. Confused

My favorite episode is the one where Lupin goes to that mansion full of hot chicks with gas that rapidly speeds up the aging process. It's got tons of hot chicks (on par with Fujiko) and at one point, Zenigata and Lupin get drunk and laugh together.

You are right, spoiler[his sword has broken], although I haven't seen that episode. However, in this movie spoiler[it did brake after he faced a guy with some steel plating for armor.] What was funny was at the end of the movie, spoiler[it seems that Zenigata has cought Lupin and handcuffed himself to him, then Fujiko comes up and then she and Lupin start kissing. Much to Zenigata's embarrassment Lupin starts pulling down Fujiko's blouse (BOOBS!! Shocked ) and then the US military starts bombing the island they're on. Fujiko's able to get on a plane with Goemon and Jigen while Lupin and Zenigata have to work together to run away from INCOMING!!! ]Pretty amusing.

What is to like about the series. Something being a classic does not translate to being good to watch. The Wizard of Oz is a classic too, but I cannot sit and watch it. I feal my teeth start to decay. Overacting to the enth degree, poor dialogue, poor special effects, and a weak storyline. Hey that sounds familiar just like lupin the third.

Seriously the animation is lousey. The plot is as deep as a drought starved puddle. The characters are actually one dimensional. Everything about the series is repetitive. Even the jokes are not remotely funny reguardless of age. Oh Lupin is getting horny over breasts again for the thousandth time.

I usually try to find a strong point in every series. One thing that gives value to it. I cannot find one in this series. Maybe twenty or thirty years ago. This show might have had something, but today its meaningless dribble.

Seriously the show is from the 70's. Seriously the plots are about stealing. Seriously can you be a little lenient about some things. Seriously this series has a great jazzy soundtrack. Seriously better in Japanese dialogue.

I love this show, the only thing that sucks is that when it was on [AS] they showed the same episodes over and over again. I wan't to see some other episodes but what are you gonna do.

Age is no excuse. Some shows age well others do not. This show has not aged well. I personally do not grade things on a slideing scale where the older it gets the more lenient I become.

The fact remains it has not a single strong point. The show was not ambitious enough in anyway to give it any life after the time it was aired.

Seriously I would rather watch the telletubbies over lupin. Atleast you can watch that show and find the latent references to a post apocalyptic world, or the homosexual references, or even pretend they are saying something else.

Which is exactly why it ran for 3 TV seasons (228 episodes), 10 movies, 26 specials, and 4 OVAs (might be off a bit, had to count the encyclopedia entries). The most recent of these coming out in 2005 (Angel Tactics), when the series started in 1971.

The same could be said for sesame street. By that logic that must mean shows like sesame street, the young and the restless, and WWE wrestling, all deserve oscars.

Yes there will always be a market for tasteless fair, or weak content shows. Why I have no clue, but it is most certainly not because it is good.

The Jerry Springer show falls into this category for me. This is not good television people just watch it to see some redneck threaten to beat up his other redneck relative, because of some bizarre family situation, and yes people get off on that too. In the end it is actually sad. Yet according to some peoples logic Jerry Springer must be the second comeing of christ. There is a term out there for such fair its lowest common denominator.

I won't argue about the tastelessness of your examples (although Sesame Street may be a different story...at least when I was in pre-school...I've heard a lot of changes have been made), however shows such as the WWE and Jerry Springer were ambitious. Both shows had concepts no one else had thought of, and because of that found a rather large audience they could profit from.

As far as Lupin, it's just classic cool in the same way James Bond (Sean Connery Bond) is for us (do you like Bond?). Anyway I don't find Lupin to be filled with "weak" content. Lupin's always thrown a curveball and it's always interesting watching him work. Besides it's not like everything turns out the same each time (it's always a toss up whether or not Lupin will keep his latest prize). Also saying that the characters are one dimensional is the same as saying everyone in Seinfeld was. Lupin the 3rd has a certain level of charm that shines through it's dated animation (if that's bugging you watch one of the more recent adventures). Sure some things will never change (Lupin's lust for Fujiko, Zenigata trying to catch Lupin), but because these characters are so strong a new Lupin adventure is always a fun ride.

I agree Lupin the third does have it's funny parts but the whole story line just doesn't cut it for me.

Now that I think about it, doesn't After the Sunset kinda fall under the same type of storyline as Lupin?
