Seriously congrats to how well One Piece is doing. I love One Piece, it's easily my favorite manga, I just wish other series and genres could break out as well as it has.

Further proof that One Piece has carried the torch well from Dragon Ball.

I like the series well enough, but seriously, that's just crazy-money.
Congrats to Oda. Maybe he'll allow himself an extra hour of sleep in celebration.

Taking in mind that Strong World was an AT, semi-canon movie I enjoyed it even if it is't like the main story (of course), but with this results I'm starting to wonder if this new movie is even better than SW, near fully-canon quality.

I saw it, it's definitely better than Strong World mainly for a very interesting villain.
I don't know I wasn't that impressed with Strong World overall.

If it manages to take US$82 million over the new year, then that would be absolutely crazy! Most Hollywood films would be over the moon to rake in that amount!
I wonder what the actual budget of this film was so we can see profit margins. Can't see it being that much!
And yes, just goes to show everyone that One Piece is the Dragon Ball of this generation. Amazing!

I find that anime films more interesting than live action at there best more creative and may I say enjoyable this looks like one of them.

One Piece is not the Dragon Ball of this generation because DB was huge everywhere in the world in almost every country while OP is big in Japan only.

It's a movie based on a popular children's cartoon. Did you expect less? The annual Pocket Monsters, Doraemon, Detective Conan, and etc movies surpassed those as well. Kids movie doing better than otaku stuff like Madoka and Nanoha is not surprising at all.

Foreign market means nothing when we're discussing anime. OP surpassed DB long ago in terms of sales.

The saturday drop was about 52% (still waiting for the 2 day week-end numbers but the sunday data should not increase or decrease the figure dramatically in either direction). That's still a big drop for the standards of the market but it's less than Strong World or Evangelion 3.0 and far less than the 60-65% I was expecting (given the huge first week-end numbers). With New-Year, 6 billion is now a given, the movie will probably stay on top of the box-office until mid-january too.
