One Piece Film Z Earns 3.1 Billion Yen in 10 Days

The Nikkan Sports newspaper reported that One Piece Film Z earned 3.1 billion yen (about US$36 milion) in the 10 days since it opened on December 15, selling a total of 2.6 million tickets. Movie Walker gave the more specific numbers of 2,611,284 tickets for a total of 3,176,367,450 yen (US$37,055,185). During the recent three-day holiday weekend, the film sold 835,720 tickets for 1,021,810,350 yen (US$11,878,750) and stayed on top of the chart for the second time.
New Year's ticket sales are expected to put the total over 7 billion yen (US$82 million), higher than Toei's previous projections.
The film's box office total is now 136.9% more than 2009's One Piece Film Strong World.
One Piece Film Z is also the fastest domestic film to sell 1 millon tickets this year. It sold 600,000 tickets for 750 million yen (US$9 million) on its first day, and 1.14 million tickets for 1,372,050,000 yen (about US$16,339,700) its opening weekend — the highest of any film this year.
