This seems like a natural move for Cartoon Network/Adult Swim.
Just like Boomerang. They know they have a reasonable audience, which if they dedicated themselves to, would give them a lot of money. It's a buisness afterall. Especially because they continue to aim Cartoon Network towards the 9-12 age group. I mean thats why they moved Toonami. I see it as a good thing, especially if it's free like Cartoon Network (with cable of course). They could probably get away with less editing, but I'm not going to get my hopes to high for that. It's not a bad thing, not at all. |

This is all online, so yes while they do have a VOD station, those without VOD can still get a fix whenever they want.

This has the potential but my guess is that those 7 archive episodes will be the shows that AS has made. I think we'll only see anime on Fridays as usual

There was clamor to do this beforehand (as shown in one of their "Answering Mail" bumps) and they had said they'd get back to us on that.
Well, here it is. Oh, and a dollar says one of the archived episodes is "Boo Boo Runs Wild" |

I'm assuming by "archive episodes," they mean new episodes will permiere Friday, as usual, but instead of taking them down at 6 in the morning, they'll leave them up for a week until they're replaced by new episodes.

This is great news, IMO. By "archived episodes" I'm thinking episodes they have already aired, like say Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 20, along with maybe Episode 100 of Inuyasha, etc. I could be wrong though.

That whole Friday Night Fix thing could turn into a perfect ten if they air episodes uncut. Its much easier than tv whereas all they would have to do is have a are you 18 or older click or else leave page. However I think I'm giving the old Georgia folks way too much credit. Still... they haven't official announced any anime other than the Boondocks and Champloo so this whole thing may be doomed to nothing but episodes of 12 oz mouse and Perfect Hair Forever with a ray of hope shone through every now and then.

Although posted on Anime News Network, there's no guarantee that this channel will be all-Anime like FUNi and ADV's respective networks. Personally, and not to disrespect fans, but I would rather not watch the mind-numbing cheap "Adult Swim Comedy" shows, knowing that my brain shrinks after each viewing AND that AS will be making huge profits off of subscribers to the channel.

It will be a mix of their comedy and anime, but they've told their viewers that what they choose for the mix will be weighted by what's watched. So if more people stop by and stream the anime, eventually the anime will outweigh the comedy in their online lineup...

Why the hell can't Adult Swim just have it's own station? They can kick out Boomarang and give it to Adult Swim.

You're kidding, right? So the only piece of Cartoon Network left to have any real variety of programming outside of Kids Next Door & Billy & Mandy, and you want it taken over by an equally nauseating amount of Family Guy and 12oz. Mouse reruns 24 hours a day? Adult Swim's programming lineup is not diverse enough to support an entire network. Too big for the space it has, yes, but not nearly enough to support a healthy variety of programming week in and week out, especially given how much they tend to endlessly over-rely on the same few core shows. You'd be getting an entire evening of the Family Guy/Futurama power hour on every even-numbered o'clock, with reruns of their more recent original programming in between. |
