I have seen about 20 episodes of Naruto. I think the show is actually quite good. Though I have noticed something about it. The main female character Sakura.
I have never seen Sakura fight. All her character does is talk and think. She obsseses over Sauske. And always makes comments about the condition of the fight.
Whether she thinks a move is cool or stupid. She exaggerates and discusses whatever pops up in her mind. All she does is talk and guard. Does she have any abilities besides talikng? I have never seen her use a jitsu. Or any special attacks.
In fact throughout the first twenty episodes i have never seen a female character fight. Throughout the show i have only seen male characters fight each other. Whats wrong with this picture? Its obvious that the creators made Sakura weaker.
Is it because she is a female? Does she ever fight anyone?
Why are guys the only ones who fight? Am I wrong do female characters fight in this anime? I have never seen a female character take an active role in battle. Is it just me or is something wrong? WTF is up with this? Is Naruto sexist?

I had always had the same complaint about Sakura...she was a cool enough character, but was useless in battle. However, I finally watched some of the early 30s episodes last weekend, and she does actually do some fighting. There are a few other females that fight as well.
Still, since the target audience is (more or less) boys aged 10-13, it's understandable that they'd play up the guys and downplay the girls.

I dont know if any females actually do fight...I watched quite a way in and it turned out the one character who I thought was a female(the one with the mask...Zabuza's side kick) was actually a male...I'm not sure, but you may be right.

No, actually Sakura was probably the only character that was made to be really really weak. But if you continue to watch you'll see there are many excedingly powerful female characters yet to appear. I don't want to spoil it for you so I won't say any more.
Just keep on watching...

Thanks for the information Zalis. Its good to know that at least female characters fight in Naruto. But thats still pretty messed up.
Even though its targeted at a male audience. I seen more animes were female characters take a more active approach to battle. Its unusual to me.
Do you think it has something to do with some sort of bias?

Sakura is weak? Oh wait, some of you guys watch the US releases. Well then, like Luminal said, be patient.

Do you think it has something to do with japanese culture or some sort of bias? |
Don't bring your US perspective political correctness BS into Japanese culture or anime. Last thing I want is another debate why they should correctly portray black characters by drawing them correctly and having the correct voice.
There's no sexist intentions in Naruto. There's no bias, discrimination, prejudice, or racism. Stop being paranoid about equality when people really aren't equal. It's not a topic I want to avoid, it's a topic that should never be started. Why? Anime shouldn't be influenced by the moral and social ideals of the US.

Azathrael I disagree with you. I can ask whatever question i want. I am not being paranoid I am not trying to spread hatred. I am not trying to influence moral and social ideals.
And I am not being politically correct. I am asking a question that has been on my mind.
I am curious to why the show is this way. I was just asking a question.
And you're right people are not equal. Your level of arrogance is unsurpassed.
You truly believe that you are above everything.

because most of them are bullshit. Sure, we're the superpower now; but we're going straight down, and fast, like Spain during the time of the spanish inquisition. We aren't quite bad yet, but we're well on our way....
luckily, im moving out of the country in two years to return to my true home: Italy. more specifically, Venezuela. To hang with family (forever, the place is damn beautiful!)

Spreading hatred? Influence moral and social ideals? Who, you? No. You're under the misconception that you somehow completely control your moral and social ideals when making these stupid generalizations so I will clarify them for you.
What you're actually doing in starting these threads is something you're not doing. And it's called thinking. Everything you've said in any thread you've started so far are your opinions. Yet you think you're "above everything" by making these outrageous generalizations about anime as a whole. Then you go as far as to question sexism as part of "Japanese culture or some sort of bias" when it's actually you, grown up under the US influence of political correctness and ideal equality, who's culturally affected to say such things. To deny that would be a lie.
Yes, you can ask whatever you want. But it's your responsibility. If you say something stupid and get corrected, you should learn something.
As for the level of arrogance, I'm actually considering your environment and how you were raised to be a factor in your opinions, because it's the truth. I could've just said you were an ignorant fool for asking these questions, but you don't see me making assumptions and generalizations as if my opinions were the truth of an entire history of art.
No comment on what should or should not be influenced by US moral and social ideas. I think the issue itself is way too dependent on personal opinions.

There is a big difference between us Azathrael. Unlike you Azathrael I humbled myself multiple times and admitted that I was wrong. That I have made mistakes.
However you ignore my apologies and my mistakes. You judge me and call my questions stupid and ignorant generalizations.
To stroke your own over grown ego. And make you feel better.
Yes I accept my mistakes and i will learn from them. Your goal is not to help others learn and gain knowledge. Azathrael your a nihilist whose only ture goal is to tear people down.
You really don't care, your just looking for an excuse to argue.
Even though i admitted I made mistakes you still insult me.
And suggest that I am a fool.
Azathrael are you truly that heartless. Does your arrogance know no bounds.
