So, I watched the series months ago when it was on Anime Unleashed. Although I found the art style to be very neat and all, I did find it hard to follow, and confusing at times. I don't know if this was because of the anime itself, or if AU cut some material out of episodes to fit them all.
Anyway, the silly question concerns an event that happens at the end of an episode: after falling out of a flying castle, the hero is descending to the earth while his friends come around in a jet. Then, for whatever reason, the guy in front fires a missile at the hero and seemingly blows him up, with the girl crying out in horror.
Cut to next episode. They're all sitting around a fire, looking healthy, and the hero isn't bringing up how his ally tried to blow him up last episode.
So, what the hell happened? Why did the guy decide to attack him with a missile, how did the hero survive, and how come they never mention it again? Was this a weakness of the anime, or did AU screw up?

this anime is extremely hard to follow at the last few episodes. so if you are collecting the dvds, i suggest you stop collecting the final volume cause it just ruined the whole series.
as for your question, i believe that missile shot was intended to wake the main character up. since the mc is a mutant, he won't die with that level of firepower.
you may ask yourself then, wouldnn't the missile damage more than the ground would to the main characters? in this case, you can just assume that the black leathered dude is an illogical idiot.

I haven't seen The Soultaker for a while so I don't quite remember what happened. Knowing Soultaker though, what dark_hand said is probably true. I didn't think the ending was that bad though. The final episode was a bit odd if I recall (not that the rest of the anime isn't) but there have definately been worse endings. Also, the main character has a name; Kyosuke.

Yeah I thought it was to send him flying up too. I never really thought about it because that's just what I figured. I think the fact that Kyosuke Date was a demon/devil/whatever I forgot, he can't be harmed by conventional "human" weaponry.
This was one of the first complete series I ever saw so it is a classic to me but compared to most recent stuff, it's not that great. I first saw it on TechTV and it is heavily edited. The DVDs show so much more, I lost all respect I had for AU back then. Of course all I had seen on AU was Gatekeepers 21, and Silent Mobius, but even those were edited. The 1st scene, where Kyosuke is killed by his mom, is like a 3 minute scene on DVD that was reduced to a 15 second intro.
I picked up the old releases, before Signature Geneon they had shiny covers, used at my local Suncoast and Gamestop. I spent less than $50 on the 4 DVDs.

Ah, The Soultaker..a classic series, cool visual aestehics with esoteric plotlines. I for one, had not problem with the final eps.
atleast there was a happy ending. unlike many anime series these days. BTW your'e losing out by watching Anime on AU or even Adult swim due to censorship edits and bad dubbing.
although AS isn't as strict when compared to Anime unleashed.
