Wow, I am somewhat shocked that this title got picked up in Jason's column for the week. Here is a manga that I enjoyed immensely and thought it was just going to be never known by most manga readers.

I remember being amazed when I saw the omnibus of vol. 4-5 (it had been so long since vol. 3, I thought they just stopped releasing volumes) in a Borders and picked it up right then and there, figuring a title like this would not stay in print for too long. Tokyopop going out of business not so long thereafter cemented that notion.

At the time I picked up the first manga and read through it I could tell that it was meant for relatively older readers. (The mature ratings make that obvious.) The characters actions and interactions felt more realistic and made it more interesting to read and led me to being quite a fan of the series. It is too bad it probably will never be picked back up.

If you can still find the books, I would strongly recommend them. Thanks for highlighting this title in your column Jason!

I enjoyed this series but I must admit that I sold my copies of 1-3 once it became clear that it was likely never going to be finished. I'd love for that to change though because it was a really interesting read, with a different perspective than you usally find in manga.

This sounds like a cool manga! I'd love to check it out if it gets picked up by another publisher; there's nothing more painful than a story with no ending!

Also, I think there's a little typo in the essay-- Moyoco Anno's office manga is "Hataraki Man", not "Hatakiri Man."

You know, I was thinking the exact same thing. But then I could also imagine Ed Chavez saying the market for Suppli would be smaller than the market for Twin Spica.

This looks like a really great manga. I've heard good things about it, but I've never picked it up because it hasn't been translated all the way to the end.

In Japan, it was adapted into an 11-episode live-action drama, although based on online descriptions it sounds like the plot was changed a bit, making it more obviously romantic.
You ain't kidding. I've seen this drama and really enjoyed it but the focus is definitely more on Fujii's being somewhat torn between Ogiwara and the notably younger, laidback (i.e. somewhat irresponsible) part-timer Ishida, with a lot of interesting ad agency behind-the-scenes stuff inbetween. Since Ishida is played by Kamenashi Kazuya it's not hard to figure out which way the romance is going to go, in the drama at least. Razz

This title is so fantastic. It's so rare for josei manga to be translated in the US, I was heartbroken when Tokyopop shut down and I wouldn't get to finish the series.

However, if you speak any foreign languages, you can find the rest of the books on other countries' Amazon sites. France is always a reliable source for manga that you don't see in the US (in French, of course), and most of it can actually be found on Amazon.ca (Canada).

You should get that cough fixed. Sadly we aren't doctors or miracle makers.
