Sigh, can't anime companies keep up anymore. Still waiting for the end to Eureka 7 AO.

Somewhere in the production chain there's not enough money, not enough animators / production people and not enough time to make up the short fall.
That's a sign of an ill industry. Mark Gosdin |

Well, according to this tweet from the director Mizushima... https://twitter.com/tsuki_akari/status/248809494556065792

Sounds more like it was just one person that fucked it up for the rest of us, rather than an actual sign of an ill industry |

By all reports, a single person fucked up majorly, leading to this.

But how could one person do this much damage? Did he accidentally lose the only master version? Did he purposefully sabotage the production? Did he hide satanic images in various backgrounds, forcing staff to go through episode six frame by frame to find them all?
Seems pretty weird. |

Going through frame by frame to cleanup the animation or when someone messes up is not that uncommon. SHAFT does it for there own shows for video releases. The entire process save for CG parts is fbf after all. I've also heard this complaint levied against outsourced animation, though I'm sure it happens internally and to local outsourcing as well. There a many possibilities, but judging from the tweet, it sounds like a rushed job, maybe consistency issues, gaps in coloring, etc

Yeah, most of the studios run very tight schedules. This stuff isn't done months in advance, it's done scant weeks or days in advance depending on how behind they are...
Granted, the industry does appear to be a lot better about it than they were in the past. I'm sure people can think of many shows from the 90s or early 2000s that featured at least 1-2 review episodes in a 26 episode series, if not more. I guess maybe because they outsource more to pick up the slack now? But yeah, I can see how one person could delay everything, especially if it was a key animator -- that would mean you needed to not only redo all their keyframes, but try to smooth out the consistency in the in-between frames as well. Especially with how Girls and Panzer has actually been fairly high animation quality so far. |

Yes, with its current quality even a little drop could stick out a lot.
