I'm not good with roman numerals so I thought this was Dragon Quest Journey of the Cursed Kind being remade. My heart nearly jumped out it's chest lol.
Actually it would be pretty coll if that game was remade and put on the Vita or 3DS. DQ8 on the go would be a dream. It's not like they can't do it anyways since Person 4 was remade on the Vita and it looks much larger then DQ8.
Back on topic if I had a 3DS I would've probably picked this up.

I bought this game for my Playstation 2 11 years ago, but back then, Enix hadn't merged with Square Soft yet, although this would be the last official Dragon Warrior game in the US ever again.
I imagine the graphics will probably see a slight improvement in this version.

I figured that since they've remade all the others, this one was next in line - awesome that they're doing it on the 3DS though!
DQ8 was one of the best games I've ever played, so it will be nice to see what the game that was released right before it was like in comparison.

Sounds interesting, I'll definitely check it out if they bring it over here. I was a big fan of of the original three games (especially 3), loved VIII, and I've got IX but have yet to play it (just another game in my large DS backlog). I'd like to get IV-VI but who knows if I'll ever find a time to squeeze it into my budget.

Wow, neat! But 7 is frankly one of the longest RPGs I've ever played period, I still haven't beaten the PS1 copy I must've gotten like 6 years ago (but I have over 90 hours on it, kept having to pause story progression to grind myself silly against those Lvl8 slimes. My record for exp in one battle against them is a little above 100,000 exp. Granted, the battle must've lasted a half hour at least. It's simple, by that point, I think you have Aira, who comes with PaniDance skill. Wait until they've summoned a full set of 8, then next round, PaniDance to confuse them all, pick off until there's one or two left, let them summon more, rinse and repeat. Each Lvl8 slime by itself is 150 exp, while a combined King Slime is 170, so it made more sense to kill them individually, right?)
Anyway, I don't have a 3DS yet, but the 999 spiritual successor and now this are my first two reasons to maybe get one, though an RSE remake would force my hand for sure.

this was not a very good game
it was basically an attempt to cash in and I never finished it
though its not a terrible game, just plain mediocre

DQ VII was my favorite game in the series. I'll have to pick up a 3DS if it gets a US release.

For those that haven't played DQ7 before, and are curious as to how it stacks up to some of the more newer games, here are some bullet points incase you need some idea of how it is.
1. It is very much in the vein of classic DQ games, in that you are given a world with no explanation on where to go or what to do. Most of the plot is parsed out in little bites, with each country having its own plot and villain to defeat then moving on to the next.
2. You can fight God.
3. Its is VERY long, as point 4 will attest, but in the PS version, from bootup to the very first monster battle, expect to walk around for an hour and a half in the epilogue.
4. GRINDAN. If you like grinding, this game is for you. The job class system revolved around fighting and winning battle of foes of equivalent level. Of which is takes roughly 100+ battles to master a basic class, of which you have to master several to unluck advanced classes, fight 200+ battles to master those, master several of those to unluck ultimates, then fight several hundred more battle to fully master them. So if you want to get the Hero class, you'll have to fight 1465 battles, which is the absolute bare minimum, and take a certain job class course. Want to change jobs in the middle of play? You get hit with a retraining penalty, which takes about 20 fights to pay off.
Hopefully they overhaul that system when they put it on the 3DS. That is an INSANE amount of time you have to put in just in GRINDAN, and it would behoove any new players to research job trees so they don't flounder in course selections.

part of what made dq8 what it was, was the fully-realized 3d world; i feel like they wouldn't be even close to able to recreate that on the 3ds yet.
wasn't p4: the golden a smaller version of p4 with things streamlined down to size, similar to the other persona handheld editions? i have no idea since it's still not out here. p4 is a way smaller world, with way simpler graphics, though. dq8 is huge.
also, was the best-selling dq game, even after dq8 was released, this seems natural. it's arguably THE BEST in the series, too, so it's pretty exciting. i honestly don't remember feeling like i had to grind much at all in the game, and it was my first dq game, ever, so it couldn't have been TOO bad. also, i find the job class systems in games like final fantasy v completely, utterly boring, but it was actually very, VERY fun and intuitive in this game.
this and dq iv are probably tied for the most emotional storylines in a dq game, too--this one might be a tad bit higher than even iv..but i don't wanna spoil anything.

Um, no. Persona 4 Golden is an improved version in every way, with higher resolution graphics and 15 hours of new content. And Persona 4 is one of the biggest PS2 games as well (a good 100 hours to beat it), so there should be no issue with DQ8 on Vita. Vita had do near PS3 graphics afterall.

DQ7 is by far my favourite DQ game. I loved its world, the story, the time traveling, all of it. I was really hoping to see this on the PSN store one day, but clearly not going to happen now.
I am seriously considering buy a 3DS for this now...

This is first title I've seen that should actually benefit from being on the 3DS. The isometric graphic style practically screamed to be in 3D. I might actually get a 3DS for this.
In regards to the games length, I remember it taking 3 hours before I encountered my first monster, and when I finished the first disc, I'd already put 100 hours on the clock and I didn't spend all that much time grinding or otherwise dawdling around.

Wow, Tsuchida's wish from Hanamaru Kindergarten came true... and I have been wanting one since it was mentioned in that anime. I like how the graphics have improved, or that's what I think from the screenshot. And it has Gabo
