One year before we figure out if it's bad or good. Swell.

If it was Tyler Perry Directing it, it would be a total disaster

Oh here we go, let's bash the Oldboy remake and give Japan's remake of a famous Clint Eastwood's film a free pass from criticism because everybody know Asia can never do no wrong. Can't wait for Japan and Korea to remake Twilight and everybody will bash the original film and somebody will throw in pro-Asian praises for the remake.

Same weekend as the New York Comic Con 2013. Spike Lee is a New Yorker. Maybe they'd have a preview screening, panels, and actors promoting it.

Honestly, this isn't even the most interesting movie I've seen from Park Chan Wook.

(out of all I've seen, it'd have to be Thirst)

Even in the context of the Vengeance trilogy, it's not the most interesting.

(I liked Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance)

This movie felt light on content, but heavy on style...

But man, what style.

Not familiar enough with Lee's film work to really comment, but I did like the 25th Hour, even though upon further contemplation it's really a movie about Edward Norton being scared about being anally raped in jail.

http://youtu.be/pE5PBuOUimo

A topic that was extensively made fun of in The Boondocks...

(jail has... other problems as well, but a lot of people seem to miss that and only focus on that one thing)

Anyway, I think this whole thing that mdo7 talks about is a fairly common symptom in anime fandom.

The people he talks about are probably the same people that will tell me , with a straight-face, that the live-action Death Note is actually a good movie and not the crappy film with a j-drama sensibility that it really is.

Like...

Watch real movies; god damn.

As long as it's not Michael Bay making it, it has at least the slimmest chance of not being a total piece of d*ckf*ck *cough cough Transformers cough cough**

Well at least he's taking a decent amount of time to work on it, lets face it the manga and the korean movie are different so if you really want to rag on it what do you rag on it for? being different from the manga or being different than the korean movie?

Have low expectations but will most likely watch it at some point

I'am dreading seeing this one day. I just know at some point i'm going to see it and its going to most likely pail in comparison to the original.

Much like 'The Departed' did for 'Infernal Affairs'. Although one of few reasons i liked 'The Departed' despite not being as good was its stellar cast. Something this remake/adaptation lacks. I was intrigued by the possibility of Colin Firth in the lead. I think that might of given me hope that i wont hate Lee's version. But now with that cast i'm really not sure.

Then again after all that i actually wonder if this will be very similar to the Oldboy we know anyway since i'm not convinced the plots of the film would be favorable to a general American Audience.
