*grin* That's the one. It's a great way to introduce people to his band, I've found ("Ok, the one he just kissed is Ren, and now he's dancing with You, and there, that one pretending to give him a blowjob is Masa..." ). Mind you, that's not the most fanservice-filled performance he's ever done

I guess I'll be showing my age with this response:
The first Japanese Pop song I heard (that was specifically Japanese) would be Watashi ni HAPPY BIRTHDAY by Megumi Hayashibara - Nuku Nuku's OAV Opening theme.
My first JPop song outside of anime would be I Don't Wanna Cry by Romantic Mode. Finding their music since has been supremely difficult.
My first J-Rock song would be Baby Love by Rina Chinen. Even with all of the artists I have in my collection now, Rina still stands out.
(Note: The first Japanese song I heard that was not originally in Japanese would be the Space Battleship Yamato opening theme. When it was brought to these shores, the original Japanese lyrics were dropped and a new set of lyrics were written - which became the Theme for Star Blazers. It is one of the few times I prefer the English re-write over the Japanese version).

I totally agree! Hikaru Utada has been my favorite... but the song that got me addicted to anime and japanese music... was Heart of sword... I think it was an ending theme to Rurouni kenshin...

Uhm, I might have heard a few things over the years but what really "got me", was watching FLCL on adult swim like one and a half years ago. I came to love the music done by The Pillows so much. Since then I haven't gotten into too many japanese bands other than what they have put out on soundtracks that I own.
*Edit*Oh and as for song..hmm..I'd say Hybrid Rainbow was my favorite song and that's one of a handful of songs I wanted to find from the series.

The first popular Japanese song I distinctly remember listening to predates J-pop by almost half a generation: Azusa Michiyo's "Konnichiwa Akachan" (released in 1962 - I heard it several years later...yes I have seen the movie). First anime related tune in Japanese I still remember is the opening theme to "Obake no Q-Taro" (Lord knows who sang that one!) which I first saw in 1972.

The first J-pop music I listened to was Ayu. My favorite J-pop band right now is Ketsumeishi and Dragon Ash.

I listened to some tracks from Kou Shibasaki's album Glitter a while ago. Good although it didn't really catch my attention(Shibasaki is probably more well-known as an actress). I love most things coming from Japan, but I've never been much of a fan when it comes to j-pop.
I enjoy Japanese music and bands like Pizzicato Five, Merzbow, Susumu Yokota, Cornelius etc, but that hardly qualify as j-pop, at least not the commercial type.

The first J-POP that i listened to was Fukai Mori from Do AS Infinity. My Fav Japanese Band/s are Asian Kung Fu Generation and Utada Hikaru. I just started getting into the Japanese music over last summer and my collection is growing rapidly.
