According to this press release on Blabbermouth.net, it looks like Dir En Gray's new album is going to be hitting stores on March 7. Jon, I'll have to ask you: Who the heck are Warcon Enterprises? I don't think I've ever heard you mention them...
On a personal note, I hope this takes off. I'd sure like to see some albums from Onmyouza, Lamiel, Phobia, Blood Stain Child and the rest get licensed for distro over here. Imports are expensive![/url] |

Warcon is a relatively new label started to bring indie/rock/punk artists closer to their audiences. The companies that started Warcon are not new, nor is Warcon itself, but its record label only has a relatively small amount of artists right now. Music fans will recognize the Warcon name as the group that helps put out Warped Tour every year.
Dir en Grey, however, is not on the Warcon label-- their album will just be distributed by them. DeG is still on their own label. |

Before you get too excited about Warcon's distribution, keep in mind that Tofu Records ran into a lot of trouble when they let Red handle their stuff. I think they use a different distributor now.
Yeah, it's cool to have Dir en Grey CDs over here, but expecting to see them on Warped Tour is kind of like waiting for Utada to do a joint concert with Mariah Carey. |

This might score DEG a few more Ameircan fans, but I doubt much else will come of it, or any of their other albums will be put out here. The only reason Warcon is distributing them...well, is most likely because DEG is currently in the middle of a music phase. Deg's music changes every few years, from soft-rock with ska elements to techo to heavy rock to screamo to who knows what's next.
I'm not saying their current music is better or worse. I'm just saying that this label probably wouldn't be interested in anything pre 6 Ugly, because it's just not the type of music they distribute. And on a complete random sidenote, out of curiousity....if they actually did gain a lot of popularity from this, do you think networks would play their music videos on tv? Deg's videos are just....gruesome, sometimes they're just too much to watch. (I can't even sit through the entire Saku video.) Do you think it would be deemed too gross to play on tv in America? ![]() |

And now there is a review of the album posted at Blabbermouth. It didn't rate too highly, but that doesn't surprise me a whole lot.

It's funny how this Free-Will America will be releasing it when I can't find any info on the company at all.

Thing is, I've read a lot of Keith Bergman's stuff, and when it comes to metal and rock he knows what he's doing. But you're right, it's pretty apparent he couldn't give two anythings for this record. Quite some time back, I remember reading a post about Loudness playing in Korea, and there were a ton of "flame" posts about them. Same when X-Japan released a DVD. And absolutely NObody gets why former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman is working with Nanase Aikawa and Ami Suzuki. People are seriously freaking out over it. |

Personally, I think that Blabbermouth is, in general, a very unprofessional site. Someone writes up a review in two hours, doesn't research and doesn't bother to spell check it, then a couple people leave unimportant commentary a la Deviantart. ![]() Secondly, if someone will assume that music is inferior just because it isn't in English, then I have no respect for that person's opinion. There are plenty of rock bands around the world that have been topping charts and selling out shows without speaking a lick of English - Ramnstein, or B'z, for example. (Hell, B'z was the internationally 5th top selling artist in the entire world last time I checked - they're obviously doing something right.)
Oh...I love Onmyouza, but that's probably never happening. Not only is their music entirely in Japanese (whereas DEG speaks a bit of English), but it's archiac Japanese with it's lyrical and creative base entirely in Asian myth/folklore/culture/etc. |

I just wanted to say that I just posted this on the front page of http://www.absolutepunk.net/ and I'll probably be banned for it since I'm not "staff." So if it's still there check it out, it's all for the j-rock.

I'll stick my little DEG snob head in here to point out Dir en Grey is spelt Dir en grey. They keep the 'g' in grey lowercase for some reason. Dunno why.
As to Dir en grey playing Warped, I actually think it's highly likely. It all however is up the band itself. In previous interviews the band stated they were having problems adjusting to the weather here in the US, so it's extremely unlikly they'd do the whole warped tour. Warped Tour is hard on bands used to touring the weather to begin with. The sun is constantly on you, and the bands are pushed to the max with the weather, be it rain or shine, and they play every single day, with only about 3 days off in the whole three to four months the tour is on. Which is why, if they were to show up to the tour at all, it would probably only be for a day or two. There are various bands, Indie and major label, who perform on Warped Tour for a day or two. DEG would more than likely get a California stop if they decided to do that. Can they get on Warped Tour? They could get on it no problem. Warcon, as stated above, if afflierated with the Warped Tour. Kevin Lyman co-owns the label, and he owns the Warped Tour along with Taste of Chaos. Any band on Warcon can get a spot on Warped Tour, or Warped Tour's little sister tour, Taste of Chaos, with no problem. Unless the band is huge, which none of Warcon's bands are at the moment, they're given a 20 minute set on one of the smaller stages, such as the Ernie Ball stage. DEG may not offically be on the label, but they're being distributed by them, which I don't think will lessen their chances any. Taste of Chaos however is more likely than Warped Tour. Lyman already has a Dir en grey a track (The Final) on the latest Taste of Chaos compilation, which features about 30 other bands. 80% of those bands on the CD have already performed at either Taste of Chaos or Warped. The others are rumored to already be signed up for next year's tour. So I think it's highly likely Lyman will be putting the band on a tour soon, if the band is up to it. Warped is insanely easy to get a gig on, and since they're affiliated with Warcon, they're guaranteed pretty much. I was planning to thank Lyman for distroing Withering and asking him a couple questions about his plans with DEG when Taste of Chaos made a stop in my city, but now it looks like I might not be able to attend the show at all. So, if anyone else is planning on going to ToC, you can talk to Kevin Lyman yourself. He's fairly accessible to fans, most just don't know what he looks like, or even who he is. He usually stays near the gates when the lines are forming, and loves talking with fans about his tour, so yeah... go ask him questions and see if you can get him to tell you anything. I also have been hearing that Free-Will America is actually in charge of their booking for their shows here in America. Depending on their relationship with Warcon and Lyman, that could effect DEG being on this major tour or not. If Dir en Grey really wants to penetrate the American market, they've done the right thing by Affilerating themselves with Warcon. Warcon's bands get regular airplay on FUSE, the alternative to MTV, and Warped tour is one of the largest, long running tours in the US, and those shows usually sell out. |
