Hello Everyone! To those of you who are a part of the ANN group attending the Shinichiro Watanabe lecture at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, this is a thread, graciously allowed to us by both Nagisa and SakechanBD, to be our planning and general throwing around of ideas thread. Hopefully this will allow us all to communicate freely amongst each other, so that we all have an equal say in our plans. For reference, only those on the list I have PMed each of you are currently a part of the group. If/When new members are added, I will either PM each of you, or make a post in this thread announcing the new members. Although I doubt such a thing will be a problem here, this will help just in case a few 'rouge' people attempt to have a bit of fan with our planning.

So, the questions we have before us are numerous, but I will attempt to provide as complete a list as I can below.

The first question we must answer is when we will be available to 'hang out' and/or 'do something.' Will you be available before the lecture, after the lecture, only for the lecture, or is your schedule open for both before and after? It would be a shame to assemble this group and only attend the lecture. So it would seem a majority decides type situation is in order. Those of you who are only available at a time opposite that of the majority will, naturally, have the option of 'hanging out' with those who are also free at that time. I will start off by letting everyone know that I am available both before and after. I would be happy to spend time with whoever is only available opposite the time of the majority.

The second question we must tackle is the time we intend to meet. This is, of course, a function of the time everyone is available. The easiest way to answer this question is simply for you to assess the times your are available, coupled with the amount of time you believe you'd like to spend with the group before the lecture, if that is when you are free. If you are not free a decent amount of time before the lecture, what time do you believe would be good to meet up with the group, in order to be comfortable with everyone, decide on seating, etc. My (hopeful) intent, is to make certain that everyone is included in the plans. This will make it much easier to make certain we located each other, and don't leave anyone stranded. So be sure and be totally honest in your responses.

Another question we must tackle is where to meet. Some of us will be catching rides to the musuem, coming in from out of town, etc. My current suggestion, is to meet over by the Japanese gardens across from the musuem. There is a large, green structure with a built-in bench located between the relfecting pool and the perimeter fence of the gardens. This location is both on a open, well traveled area of the park, but the actual bench structure is not one where people commonly congregate at. This would provide easy recognition of the group without having to reach extremes for identifcation.

The last of the major questions which currently come to mind is what specifically would ya'll like to do for our 'hanging out' period? I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to head out to eat. Of course, we'd have to work around food tastes and whether those that caught rides would be comfortable riding with others. Not particularily far away (5600 Kirby), is Azuma, a Japanese sushi and robata bar. It's fairly good, IMHO, but also a bit pricey. This would also put us right down the street from Anime Avalon. A possibility for those with free time after the lecture, is to head up to my office (for those of you with my email address, a simple lookup of our website will reveal its name and location) to perhaps have some sort of anime viewing party. My computer and DVD collection is quite well stocked with all types of selections. Our office enjoys 2 video projectors with a separate sound system (with a large conference room for viewing) as well as a fully stocked (drink-wise) fridge. These are merely ideas coming off the top of my head, so your ideas are welcomed.

If you guys think of anything that I haven't asked that I should have, bring it up in the thread. Also, as we get a bit closer to the date, I will provide each of you with a direct way to get in contact me, should the need arise.

like i mentioned earlier, i think the best time do this would be in the afternoon before the lecture, as some people are ready turn in at about 9, and everything will be closing around that time anyway. my suggestion is we come up with a time between 3 and 5pm. this should easily fit into the schedule of anyone that's going... unless you work at this time or something.

that's just my 2 cents though.

as far as the food issue... anywhere's fine with me as long as it's not too expensive.

1. I am available before and after the lecture.

2. If we are going to eat beforehand or play around at Anime Avalon, then I think we should meet approx 3pm-4pm. Depending on the number of tickets sold, we might want to be at the museum up to an hour early so we can get prime seating.

3. I’m for meeting at the Gardens or at the Restaurant.

4. Well, if you want to eat afterwards, Café Japon @ HWY-59 and Kirby is open till 2am on Friday and Saturday. I am always up for sushi.

5. Is anyone bringing anything to be autographed?

I agree, but I want to try and get everybody's schedule's out in the open. I know that Proz512 is driving in from Austin, and as of last I heard, does not expect to be in town until close to speech time. Everyone else who I have talked to about timing seems to be free in the afternoon, so far.

That would seem to knock Azuma off the list to start. It can get on the pretty expensive side, depending on sort of tastes you have. It's the sort of thing that's normally reserved for my yearly birthday meal. That way my parents pick up the $200+ tab. Of course we usually end up doing some serious splurging along the way. Here is their menu with pricing though.

Good thinking. It's always a good idea to build a nice buffer into the plans. Since it's a Saturday, it's a good bet decent food choices out that direction (or really just about ANY food choices out that direction) will be at least fairly busy. We also don't want to feel rushed depending on what we decide to do.

Agree here as well. I've started the process of communicating with the musuem people and/or the Consulate people as necessary to determine how exactly the seating will work out. I've also made them aware of our little group, since it never hurts to see what sort of helpful information or prime seating one may obtain by making yourself known.

I'm also for meeting wherever. I know there are at least a couple of people who are catching a ride, so I want to make it as convienient and comfortable for them as possible.

Yeah, that's one of the good things about the weekends Smile I'm pretty flexible which is why I'm trying to figure out what sort of flexibility everyone else has to play with, as well as timing preferences. If we end up getting together in the afternoon, and then some number of the group decides to head out for a late dinner or whatever after, I'm all for that as well.

Absolutely! At the very least I will be bringing my Champloo LE bandana. I'm not sure how they plan on running that part of it yet, as I wouldn't imagine he would stick around to sign something for everyone. I would figure a 1 item per person limit though. This may require me to purchase some signable Bebop merchandise for such an occasion. Champloo is good and all, but Bebop wipes the floor with Champloo as far as I'm concerned.

I can make an exception. I just don't like to get up before noon on Sunday's. Razz However if the rest would like to do a meet & greet before the lecture I'll come on up early.

1.) I don't have to do anything all day (except procrastinating on studying), so I'm free before and after.

2.) I don't have any input on when I think we should meet, but as for question number one I'm basically free all day so I shouldn't present a problem.

3.) Meeting at the gardens sounds good to me.

4.) Do we know how many people will need a ride to and from whichever restaurant or other place we decide to go? I don't have my car with me at college and get around Houston by bus, so I'm already one person that'll have to bum a ride off of someone. Not that we somehow end up with a shortage of cars.

5.) As for getting something autographed, if I can't find anything better, I was going to bring this cheapo poster of Spike.

1. I'd like to hang out before the lecture, but it's not really up to me if we can hang out afterwards...(Generally up to our ride...) But I'll bring up the subject later today and see what he has to say about it.

2. Im free all day on the 11, as is my friend Jennifer, so time wouldn't be much of a restraint for me or her. Of course, Ill check and make sure with our ride to be on the safe side, but Im pretty sure whatever fits to everyone elses needs will be fine with us.

3. Meeting place is also not a problem as long as we (My ride and my friend) can find where it is. Which wont be too big of a problem, Im sure.

4. Eating out sounds fun. But this Sushi bar thing...How expensive are we talking? Confused The Anime Viewing Party sounds like a lot of fun! But, I think me and my friend will have to talk about it since it's her brother that will most likely be taking us/picking us up. (:

<edit> 5. I'll probably bringing My Cowboy Bebop The Movie DvD to get signed. Very Happy </edit>

On another note, I thought I should introduce myself since I dont really know anyone other than Jeff. ^^ My name's Alex. I usually go by Rohan to cons and the like, but wether you call me either or I dont really mind. (The account Zakuro1208 was made a while back...I dont really go by that at all...(Smile

Hey, I don't know anyone at all and I'm going!

Just to throw my name out there, I'm Sarah, nice to meet everyone, and I'm none other than... a lurker (a bit longer than I've had the account for).

Hello everyone. My name is William.

First, I am available for anytime before & after the event. I will be on vacation.

Second, wherever we meet is OK by me. As far as food goes, anywhere that fits everyone's tastes and budgets is cool.

The viewing party sounds great!

Also, I drive a Jetta and I will have room for 3 other people(4 if the 3 in the back don't mind getting cozy)so I have that to offer. I would hope that at least one person is familiar with the area cause Downtown Houston and I are not good friends. I could muddle through, but it would be better if I had a navigator.

Hmmm, that's all I can think of for now.

I will be taking the work truck from my office. It's a Dodge Ram, which are very wide. So it can seat 5 aside from me if necessary.

It's where I work, and work involves running countless errands in the area. Although this really isn't downtown. It's Museum District/Medical Center/Midtown.

Hey everyone. This is just to ask you all to pay close attention to your PMs over the next couple of days. There is a very good chance I will have some exciting news, but this could also require a quick response from all of you.
