One thing though, it is already illegal to sell porn to minors and it seems like that is the main point of the law, to avoid minors getting their hands on porn.
I agree with Lucca in that it is the government trying to do the parents job of protecting kids from harmful material, and despite the fact that there are many bad parents it is still not the governments job to do it. I think the government overstepped its boundries of what a government is supposed to do, in that they are policing morales. |

Could you please never use the terms "prudes" and "nazis" ever again? Or at least, only apply them in proper context, rather than hurling them like dung-clods at anything you don't like? Thank you. |

I think some of you (and I'm not talking about Case, in case you need a hint) should sit back and ask yourselves if what you are posting is in any way responsibl or sensible. Because I frankly don't think it is and you are being precisely as buffoonish as those you so vociferously malign.

I think the issue is more complicated as Adult manga comes out. I know that in the local Waldenbooks in CA they put most of the manga out for public consumption but the titles rated for 18+ are put behind the counter though fully visible. It's mildly inconvenient, but given how many kids are swarming around the manga shelves nowadays, it's probably a wise precaution. If Arkansas wanted to do something like that, I would have no problem with it.
However, a general law like the one Arkansas is using I think is like trying to give a haircut with an axe. |

However, I'll bet that this law got passed in the first place because some parents were concerned and complained to their representative. Like it or not, that's representative democracy. What are the values of the "average person 18 and over"? Well, that will probably be established by the percentage of voters who approve or disapprove of that law. Of course, since the "tyranny of the majority" is always a threat in a democracy, that's why we need the courts. |

Er, well, I was doing a search and I came upon this...nothing to do with what I was searching for, but it made me mad. I live in Arkansas. Manga doesn't hurt me. I honestly hate living in Arkansas. Firstly, it's in the bible belt, so I get ridiculed for my beliefs. Secondly, I get ridiculed because I'm a girl gamer. Worst of all, they think it's stupid that I like Japanese music. arg....
Thank you for your time , Karinka |
