Can't wait!
Medaka Box is a crazy manga.

Based on the naming of season 2, a third season would likely be called Medaka Box Minus.

Medaka Box was at first a 2-court series. This is the second part, were the most awesome things happens.

Have you read the manga? Nope.
There's your answer.

Can't wait to see this bomb once again. Nisioisin just rides on SHAFT and Shinbo's coattails.

The second season was announced at the end of the first season, which means they didn't actually wait for the complete sales data before making a decision. Most likely it was planned for 2 cours all along.

That said, I expect this season to perform pretty dismally and the anime to be canceled. Which is a bit of a shame, because the manga doesn't start to get good until later, relying on the build-up of the less interesting earlier parts. Two seasons of build-up is a lot to ask someone to slog through though.

Post he is quoting is implying Nisioisin is only popular because of Shaft which laughable and ignorant.

Katanagatari didn't do too badly considering the weird format/scedule, it's bad rep as his worst series (now held by Medaka Box) and not being spoiler[harem/moe].

Average per volume
Novel : 140,000
Anime 7,206

As for Medaka Box it was doomed when Gainax went with a straight adaption. There is a good reason it was almiost cancelled; it was bad and boring. It also didn't help that fans didn't like the casting and production was bottom of the barrel.

I didn't think it was bad or boring at all. thought it was very entertaining.

Also, if the next season begins the truly good stuff, why wouldn't it do well?

Not sure where you got your estimation of Katanagatari's average book sales but it's definitely after the anime. Because before the anime, before SHAFT's Bakemonogatari aired in the summer of 2009 there was a published list of estimated light novel sales. On it Katanagatari was estimated at 720,000 sales total or dividing it by 12 yields 60,000 copies. Bakemonogatari had about the same average at 250,000 total sales for 4 published volumes of the series at the time.

Isn't it sad that SHAFT got more people to buy the BD/DVD singles of Bakemonogatari than what was the volume average before the anime aired? Because that rarely happens. Hell, the only time it happens is with the -monogatari series. Look at Haganai. It sells 200k+ copies of the light novel volumes and of the anime a mere 10k copies. That's how it typically is. So why is it that this one light novel series bucks the trend? My thought is that people in general don't like Bake or Nise for Nisio's writing. No, it's all about SHAFT and Shinbo's visual style and flair that they have given the property. If you have another explanation for why the -monogatari light novel series doesn't have the millions of sales that it should have and that Medaka Box is one of the lowest selling manga in Shounen Jump then I'd love to hear it.
