Still no interest in this or XIII-2 for that matter. X having a sequel made sense based on the final scene setting up for a sequel, but XIII ended conclusively, as far as I'm concerned Lighting and her friends lived happily ever after after that instead of random XIII-2 stuff happening. Now I was up for Versus XIII since that was a new cast and would allow us to see more of XIII's world, but now that's been cancelled, so yeah.

Versus XIII hasn't been cancelled that was a rumor spread by Kotaku.

Well at this point it's vapor ware. Also it's not like 13-2 sold all that well, so yeah Square, keep shilling the character no one likes.

I still think its been canned. It would be hell for Square Enix's stocks to officially announce a cancellation so they'll probably just let it kinda linger and try to fade into obscurity. The fact we haven't seen anything new in years for a major title is proof enough for me its vaporware at this point.

A good example of this is Starcraft: Ghost. Its never officially been canned, but we know its never coming out. Its tough for companies to officially announce major titles are cancelled due to the backlash.

Was Lightning really that popular?

FF games in general sell lots of units, but I never felt that XIII's characters were received exceedingly better than most. Yet SE continues to produce XIII games. There's the XIII-2, Versus in development (which, admittedly, does not focus on or perhaps may not even largely feature the main XIII cast), and now this. It's all been in a relatively short period of time.

I suppose it could just be that Square is experiencing some trouble in terms of game development. I imagine the XIV cut still stings. Are they just trying to steady the boat?

Despite what haters may want you to believe, FFXIII had a very positive and popular reception. Some vocal minority bashing it won't change that. Especially when they throw around claims with zero proof to back it up (just ask them if they can prove it's the most hated. They can't).

Yep. The two games sold about 10 million copies, which shows there is a significant demand for it. Personally I'll never get the FF13 hate... its basically the PS1 era FFs with better graphics. Maybe people get upset since it still aimed at teens and they are no longer the demographic? *shrug*

yep running down linear corridors, not being able to make a party or have only having control of one character makes for a great game in my book. Your probably going to tell me that final fantasy 13 gets better 20-30 hrs like everyone else did.. that's not a strong suit for any game.

Hell I know it takes around 5hrs to get out midgar in ff7. While confined there you have some control of being able to go oh look what's that, where does this place lead and so forth. FF13 did not have that from the 10hrs I played of the damned game thing before getting 30 dollar trade in value at game-stop back in 2010.

Ok, so you didn't like the game. Whoo hoo! You don't have to bitch constantly about it.

I fricking hate FFXII, and yet I manage to not bring it up constantly.

Infinite Space says hi!

It's called pacing albeit XIII was rather balls to the wall crazy with pacing.

I don't think it is canned. Even the battle system mockup demo in the trailer is fully done already. It's not like it's still in the early stage. They have released some trailers about gameplay last year so it's not there's nothing new in a lot of years. They are just having some difficulties with the real time battle happening system or so I heard. With completion level like that, it is highly possible it's just delayed.

Well, wait for TGS this month and see if versus is there or not.

Square invested 5 years and godless amounts of R&D money developing the Crystal Tools engine; so of course they'd want to get as many game returns out of it.
