Quoted for the truth. I'm in love with P.A. Works right now and this has a good staff behind it in nearly every position.

Is it just me, or has Mari Okada been doing a ton of stuff lately?

Not that I have a problem with that, mind you...

I'll wait to see what it's going to be about, but since it's from PA, that's already a plus.

Mari Okada. GG.

I'm sorry but with Buruki designs (Denpa Onna, Haganai) whose characters revolves around fanservice, combined with the fact there's a prolific writer involved who's notorious for writing bad fanservice scenes and overwrought melodrama, it's not happening.

I love PA Works and I loved Okada's work on True Tears and Hanasaku Iroha (albeit retarded occasionally) was pretty decent, but considering her state of writing atm, I'm not masochistic enough to sit to through another one of her trainwrecks. No idea why PA decided to hire her again considering how well Tari Tari without her is doing both in quality and financially projection wise - estimated to sell anywhere between 10-15k for the first volume based on stalker points. It doesn't have the inconsistencies that Iroha did.

Will pass unless the entire series is finished and people say it's actually good because the trainwreck potential is pretty high.

Agreed with acejem. I would prefer Mari off this project.

The only reason I wanna watch this is because I love P.A. Works.

Still have Red Data Girl and most likely Sakura Kagura on the line for P.A Works, so one loss isn't that harsh thankfully Smile. The former is a fantasy novel (so even if Okada adapts it, her adaptations aren't that bad if the director has a rein on her. But for now the production staff is unknown) and Sakura Kagura is an anime original with script by Naoki Hisaya.

And the Hanasaku Iroha movie... just hope Okada doesn't go batshit insane on that...

One thing I do note is that P.A. Works went from doing 1 project a year (in 2008-10) to 3-4. Explains why their visual quality has been not as good lately. Another and Tari Tari, their two most recent productions are both the two worst looking series for P.A. However, is still well above average though when compared to the rest of the industry.

The more people criticize Mari Okada, the more I am sure people did not see her best work. And sure sometimes she can make notoriously bad anime, but when she hits she hits hard.

Her best work is True Tears, and it also happened to be PA's debut series. The studio themselves know it too, considering that in every slice of life/drama based series they do, a True Tears cameo or two has been obligatory. Not to mention they release an True tears image album every year, with the latest one coming out in February of THIS year.

That's unless you're a fan of the Key-like melodrama line in which case Anohana was the best, but that was produced by A-1 Pictures with director Tatsuyuki Nagai, whose other achievements include Toradora and Ano Natsu de Matteru.

And I've seen some seen some good to excellent adaptations where Mari Okada has been involved in - namely Toradora (good) and Wandering Son (excellent). But really, you can't give Okada too much credit for that since she didn't write the original material - that should go to the original source creator.

So, in summary, I'm very familiar with her involvements and I can tell you, in this past year she's been a total mess. Black Rock Shooter, Lupin III, Aquarion EVOL, AKB00048. All have been anime originals, all were pretty awful. Which is exactly why I'm pessimistic here because she has Buruki's character designs to write her characters with, which most likely means perv/bad fanservice.

There seems to be a fairly large camp of Mari Okada haters out and about lately, but I have usually loved her work. In general, when I look at a show that she was involved in the script writing and see which episodes she was involved in, I find that the heart of the story of the show and my favorite episodes are generally ones that she scripted. I seem to recall another thread where someone was bashing Mari over the "stupid" episodes in Hanasaku Iroha, listing about three or four that they thought were really bad. It turned out that she was the script writer for only one of those episodes.

I absolutely love Buruki's character designs! That could be a startling change from the recent PA Works originals, however, I would also point out that Hanasaku Iroha and Tari Tari have different original character designers, Mel Kishida and tanu, despite the incredible similarity in the character designs. What is the same is the actual production character designer/chief animation director: Kanami Sekiguchi. If he is working on the project, I am uncertain how much the original designs by Buruki will shine through. (Considering the fact that the only things that tanu has designed for, in the ANN database are the Tari Tari anime/manga and an end-card for Guilty Crown, it is hard to say how much his/her style differes from Kishida, but I was already a big fan of Kishida's designs on Sora no Woto and the Kamisama no Memochou light novels prior to his work on HI.)

PA Works seems to be the leader in anime original stories at the moment, so any show they are giving a green-light is something I will check out, without fail!

No!I hate Key melodramas...I am talking Simoun, she wrote the best episodes for a show that already had great writing. Also lets not forget the Lupin 3 Mine Fujiko to iu onna ,this allegorical, highly ambitious and very dark piece of work in which she tackled themes such as feminism and twisted tropes ranging from 19th century literature to french film noirs. She also wrote script for Black Rock Shooter (very very unique sci fi anime)and did the adaptation for Wandering Son.So give her a little credit you guys.

But you do realise those are adaptations though right? I agree, Okada in adaptations are usually safe but give her freedom to write anime original material in even adaptations (see the latter half of Fate Stay Night or Black Butler S2) and she'll go ballistic. And once again, should you really credit for ADAPTING something over the original source creator? And her anime originals are also very schizophrenic.

Nagi no Asu Kara is an anime original (combined with Buruki designs), hence I am pessimistic.

I am a fan of PA Works, but I am anti-Mari Okada. It's the directors and script writers and write and execute the anime, whilst the studio largely determines it's production values. Doesn't matter if the show looks pretty, if the substance is bad. See Guilty Crown for a recent obvious example.

^This and I don't especially dislike Buruki's character designs but that guy adds lipstick to all his creations including little kids. His designs diametrically oppose the aesthetics of P.A. Works style which is what worries me more.

And on True Tears, I honestly hated the inclusion of that siscon brother of Noe. He completely spoiled the anime for me. His very presence was at entire odds with the fabric of the story.

Also, you are right about them taking on too many projects. The prospect brightens my day but I wish they would present us with the same level of quality that they displayed in Hanairo. I am keeping my eyes peeled for RDG and hope it delivers on all levels.
