NEWS: Hachette Lists 1st Durarara! Saika Arc Volume from Yen Press

Is this the novel? Or more manga?

The Hachette Book Group lists the first volume of Ryohgo Narita and Akiyo Satorigi's Durarara!! Saika Arc manga from Yen Press on its website.

Oh man oh man oh man! I was hoping for this! Ever since I heard there was a second arc to the manga I've wanted to get it too! I want to own everything DRRR!! and, hopefully, snatching up the manga will compel Yen to license the light novels.

I think they will pick them up. I've seen the mangas on the best seller lists for the volumes and they've gotten a A rating on ANN. I think it's just a matter of waiting for the news. How long of a wait was it for the Spice & Wolf novels?

As much as I would love for them to get the novels (and the Baccano ones), I just don't really see it happening. Novels just don't seem to be that profitable and I don't think they would want to commit to a 11+ volume series when there's not much potential for big profits. Maybe if the digital only Another novel turns out to be a good business idea they might pick up more novels and release them that way (digital is better than nothing, right?). But outside of that prospect, I don't think they would want to try a long series like this.

Do keep in mind that Another isn't a light novel. It is over 600 pages, and has been released as both 1 volume and 2 volumes. It's also a horror novel that isn't rooted in the manga culture. Another has appeal outside our fandom.

It isn't impossible, of course. I'd imagine Yen would go for that short Baccano manga first.

Maybe [as] Toonami will see fit to re-air the series next year at the butt-end of the block in an effort to support further manga/light novel releases. It would be nice if it somehow got TV time right before the next chapter in the manga to follow the conclusion of the anime is released.

I'm assuming that the Saika arc is based on spoiler[Episodes 13-17 of the anime], so it seems we've got a long way to go before that happens!

That's true. I've been thinking of it as a test. Will the lower cost and larger audience raise profit, or will too many people refuse to buy digital? I'm not sure if I expect it to do well or poorly, but I sure hope it does well. I would prefer physical for collection purposes, but I don't mind digital because it's still be a professional translation.

I'd be happy with any more Baccano or Durarara, manga, light novels, merchandise, anything. Preferable all of them, but simply having one is better than nothing.
