Not to be an ass or anything, but there is no Sony BMG in Japan. That merger was limited to all regions except for Japan.

I don't get what's so great about SEED Destiny's music. Aside from Mika Arisaka and SeeSaw's efforts (and one Nami Tamaki song at the very beginning), it was all either extremely mediocre or utter crap. We pretty much saw T.M. Revolution bottom out creatively, while I continue to insist that whoever allowed Chemistry within twenty kilometers of a recording studio needs to be beaten with rusty metal pipes. Rusty metal pipes with broken, sharp edges. The rest was all so forgettable it's shameful seeing it place up here. |
But you liked the SEED's music? IMO It really was pretty much the same stuff, down to many of the same artists, in both shows. The major exceptions style wise, IMO, were the See Saw song and the Chemistry number. I personally liked the Chemistry song (it's Soul music, only in Japanese), though I thought it was a strange thing to pick out as a OP for a Mech series (the final OP on top of that ).
Now the fact that the song did make the list did surprise me, because I would have thought everyone hated it and wouldn't have pushed it up the charts to the point it came in 10th if they weren't buying it. So either music buyers in Japan liked the song in general, beyond it's Anime connnection, or online Gundam fans are out of touch with what music tastes are in mainstream Japan. It could be both but I'd actually lean toward the former, because I think the song probably caught some music fans attention in spite of it being from a Anime (but the video for that song is truely bad IMO - makes some early 80's videos I remember seeing look inspired ).
Anyway, I agree with the poster that said the show is similar to the WB shows that use a lot of popular music due to their connection to WB's music company. No matter what you think of GSD, the show used good music by current popular Japanese music standards. If GSD commited any "sins" it wasn't really in the music area IMO - I even liked the orchestra background music for the show as well.

Hey, I happen to like Chemistry... just not really words of wings.. I thought it was kind of corny (I also must be out of the anime loop because I didn't even know it was in Gundam Seed Destiney.. I actually thought it was newer, but I guess not).

It was GSD's final OP, so it isn't that old, seeing GSD ended at the end of September/begining of October.

Difference is, though, SEED's theme song end was more dominated by the likes of Nami Tamaki and SeeSaw, as well as a T.M. Revolution that hadn't yet gotten lazy and repetitive in his Gundam contributions. "Invoke" and "Meteor" were fresh, while "Ignited" and "Vestige" felt like we were getting moldy, month-old versions of the previous two. And FictionJunction YUUKA's "Akatsuki no Kuruma" was probably the best piece of music overall to come out of the entirety of the Gundam SEED franchise. Yeah, SEED had its share of mediocre "flavor of the month" artists, but they didn't dominate things like in Destiny, where they comprised more than half of the major musical contributions to take the spotlight. In SEED, they were relegated to lower-rated story arcs and forgettable ending themes. In Destiny, they were pushed to the forefront.

I completely agree with you there, that was a very good ending in my opinion. Also, I do really love the first Bleach opening myself although I'm suprised that no other Gundam Seed Destiny songs that made it up that high, but having listened to some good explanations on this topic I guess I can agree it's a lot of marketing. Although, I'm also suprised there wasn't any other Bleach songs as well, I personally liked the third ending better then any other Bleach ending hands down.

So you think that Nami Tamaki was good, yet you hate Chemistry so much that you actually think they have no business near a recording studio? Right...... No offence to Tamaki fans here, just trying to point out what a skewered opinion I thought that was.
Quite frankly, "Invoke" to me was just a pretty good number and nothing more. I liked hearing it the first few times when it came out but it actually bores me everytime I hear it nowadays.

I don't see how it's "skewed" when they present two rather different styles of music. A fast-paced, albeit somewhat generic (I'm not a huge Tamaki fan, mind you, I just thought she suited SEED well enough) pop sound, and a grating, mind-numbingly horrid attempt at R&B. It is possible to like one and not the other, believe it or not; I see no need to cop an elitist attitude over it.

Ya, but the thing is, why didn't you just word your first initial post this way? Instead you decided to make some remark about how Chemistry has no business in a recording studio, while saying that Tamaki, simply just the latest young and cutesy J-pop singer in a long line of them, does. In other words, how is Chemistry so much less talented? Do you see how it's a skewed opinion now? Of course it's possible to like one and not the other. Just simply critique the song instead.
I'm also not that big a fan of Tamaki either, but only because I haven't heard a whole lot of her songs so far. As I hear more, perhaps I will become a bigger fan or perhaps not? I will feel more qualified then to make a judgement on her music as a whole. I do happen to be a Chemistry fan and of course that does makes me biased in this debate, but that also means that there's a chance I've heard more of their work than you and am more familiar with their singing talent and the fact that the duo has fantastic harmony. I'll also admit that their single for Gundam Seed isn't their best song, so it's a shame that you based your opinion on that. Then again, perhaps you've heard a lot of their work and you just don't like them. Fair enough, to each his own. Leave it at that instead of slinging silly insults.
I just felt that the criticism you made was redundant and ludicrous and was bringing up Tamaki to illustrate it. Feel free to attack my post by calling me elitist all you want. *shrug*

That would be High and Mighty Color's 'Ichirin no Hana' ('One flower Field' would be my take on the translation btw)... I'm a big High and Mighty Color fan. Ichirin no Hana was only released as a single a couple of months ago now, so it didn't have the chance to hit this list and give H&MC 2 songs... The same goes for several other songs mentioned by people here....
I have to say those that think 'Pride' (which is on this list) is a pop song... wow... That's a wierd definition of pop... H&MC is about as 'rock' as you can get... Though I'm often tempted to call them the Japanese Evanesence, it's actually a bit unfair since H&MC is better than Evanesence...
It's kinda a shame really that I personally will never watch Gundam Seed/Seed Destiny (I've never liked a Gundam series, don't see the point of watching new ones now)... However it was good for H&MC in that it got them alot of exposure...
On a final note I'll mention I've seen the 'Best 2005' awards show in Japan and I'm not surprised by most of these results... Which btw were: Shimata Hitomi, Otsuka Ai, Arashi, Def Diva, Morning Musume, Matsudaira Ken, Hitoto Yo, Amuro Namie, Chemistry, BoA, Shuji to Akira, D-51, Exile, Kobukuro, Aiko, Crystal Kay, Porno Graffiti, Orange Range, Koda Kumi, Southern All Stars, Nana starring Mika Nakashima, Reira starring Yuna Ito, SMAP, Tokio, and Hamasaki Ayumi... Of course that's 1 of like 4 year end music awards shows in Japan, but it does explain the popularity of some of these...
Btw ANN why no love for H&MC by giving them their own page? They have as many songs in anime as Orange Range which gets a page... If you make it I'll fill the page out for you!

Of a Top Ten list! I wouldn't consider that bad at all.
BTW, while I've never seen Bleach, I have heard "*~Asterisk" by Orange Range. That is a great song (it got stuck in my head after I heard it) and deserves its top ranking. I also thought "Pride" by High And Mighty Color was the best of the OP/EDs for GSD, so it coming in highest on the list of GSD songs was also fitting IMO (and "Pride" is not J Pop, though I have no idea what their Bleach song sounds like so I can't comment on it).
