I recommend all people play the visual novel before watching the anime. The VN is truly a masterpiece of storytelling, which doesn't fit well into the short anime format. I'll probably still buy the anime, disappointing as it is, just because of how much I love Umineko.

This is an awesome annoucement but is goign to have a weird release

Vol 1 - 18 eps $79.99 msrp
Vol 2 - 08 eps $49.99 msrp

??? I dont mind but im confused. IS it because selling them like this means they make more money?

It's probably split up that way to follow the game's arcs, or "Episodes." Episodes 1-3 (Legend, Turn, Banquet of the Golden Witch) of the games are adapted as episodes 1-8, and Episode 4 (Alliance of the Golden Witch) of the games is adapted extra long as episodes 19-26. In a way, it's kind of cool for them to make the volumes fit the story arcs perfectly.

I assume they are selling it that way because they don't want to split the story arcs up. So the first release will be episodes 1,2 and 3, and the second one will be episode 4. (Episodes being what each arc is called)

Huh. So one of my least favorite anime distributors is releasing a show that has been largely panned and ridiculed here in a bluray-only / sub-only set divided into a strangely numbered pair of season sets.

......I have absolutely no shits to give about this. At all. Confused

Rather surprised NIS America got this one. Considering the anime's reputation, I thought Sentai might get this with its "no frills" DVD sub-only release. But this one going full premium sub-only.

Get out your barf bags, folks, this is going to get ugly.

This show represents every little thing that's wrong with most horror anime, with misogynistic overtones, idiotic violence, and nonsensical plotting. I'm not a sensitive person, but this series is simply the pits from what I've seen. NIS, please, bring over anything else but this.

On the same token, I've heard the visual novel is really great, so I'm not judging the whole franchise. Just this anime.

I kind of wish they'd release it as eps. 1-11 and 12- 26; more even of a split than this. But hey, considering how much everyone else seems to hate it, I'm just glad this got licensed at all.

Do not care about the anime, but I'm looking forward to the manga. I am a fan of Higurashi for all of it's sillyness and weird indulgences it takes. Hope Umineko is as good.

Wow, so NIS America CAN do wrong.

Someone better announce Higurashi and Higurashi Kai in the next 48 hours...

Uh, yeah. I tried watching Umineko since I was a big fan of When They Cry, but I quickly dropped it. It was one of the most frustrating to watch shows that I've seen, which is saying a lot.

Well, at least you can get Higurashi Kai on R4.
