Nobody has mentioned Viz? I know they're mostly focusing on their manga ATM, but gee! To be fair, all they care about are Naruto, Bleach, and for a little while, Vampire Night. Ever since they're been under the rein of Warner Home Video's distribution (...such a terrible company...), they've been off the deep end...
Media Blasters is in a strange situation. They keep saying on their FB page that they'll have more news, but nothing has come to fruition...

Yes, Sentai can be a little pricy sometimes (key word), but c'mon! They aren't THAT bad!

They care about their fans alright. The otaku in Japan that absolutely sustain the late-night anime industry. Those fans are far more important in Aniplex's eyes (as they should be) because they are willing to pay a high price to get their limited edition anime stuff. |
I agree with Megiddo 1000%. I do not understand why some U.S. anime fans feel entitled to be taken more seriously by the Japanese anime industry. Many do not like to hear this, but I think that unless we are willing to pay $7-8 per episode, the anime industry in the U.S. is in risk of going down the drain in the near future.
I support companies like Aniplex USA because they want to charge more for anime to sustain the industry. Bandai Entertainment nailed their own coffin by charging too little. FUNi and Sentai prices are great, but are they really making enough of a profit?

Yeah...Aniplex USA is able to do their insane prices because they're supported by their Japanese parent branch. They sell FAR less than what they COULD be selling but they don't care because they're selling just enough with such a high price point that makes it worth it to them. If they really cared about the fans they would charge as little as they possibly could to make it affordable to as many fans as possible without hurting themselves...but no. Sentai isn't much better in rip-off prices...Funimation is getting close to a "monopoly" because they treat their fans properly in terms of price points (and many other reasons but that's the main one that affects us). |
Interesting enough PMMM is one of the few shows that is cheaper to but in AUS/NZ than overseas, not that I particularly mind that I paid the higher price as I ended up getting it earlier.
Anyway, you R1 people really don't know how lucky you are. You should look at the prices we have to pay downunder for our anime. Also you get all the releases. (Well apart from 'Higurashi When They Cry' season 2 *grins*)

This is just a ploy to remove the case to Fed court because ADV probably doesn't like their current judge.

I will have a wait and see attitude on this, there is nothing us fans can do at this point in time. Worrying about will not lead to anything however the most likely scenario is that sentai/adv and funimation will settle out of court by working out a deal on the assets owed.

That's a laugh and a half, ADV accusing another company of being a monopoly. Pot, kettle, black.

Don't forget they also release Pokemon, and did finish Kekkaishi this year, but yeah.
They just stream, stream, stream, and not release the other stuff.

I don't either, especially when many of these people complaining about moe and ecchi being everywhere aren't even supporting the industry. I know of people complaining, and complaining about how they're making stuff not targeted towards us (Forgetting that this stuff is Japanese animation), when they're not even watching legal streams or buying.
Also I don't think Bandai charged too little. They had singles until they (Basically) went under. They charged more than many companies for quite a while.

I support you ADV all the way, frivolous or ridiculous claims or not this will hurt Funimation, they have more to lose. Funimation needs to die in a big way.

Okay a lot of people seem to have some confusion about anti-trust lawsuits and the term monopoly. First of all, ADV says that Funi is attempting to become or may be dangerously close to becoming a monopoly. It never claims that there is no other competition in the North American anime market. Having competition, no matter how much smaller, does not preclude a company from being considered a defacto monopoly.
For examples, Apple has close to 80% of the mp3 market, and Microsoft has around 90% of the desktop operating system market. Both are basically considered monopolies in those areas, even though they both have a number of competitors in them. Being a monopoly in of itself is not technically illegal. It's the business practices that one uses to get there that can cause trouble. For instance, Microsoft got into a lot of hot water when it appeared they used the OS dominance to drive Netscape out of business and promote Internet Explorer. Apple is still facing lawsuits over the fact that iTunes DRM is not licensed to other manufacturers.
ADV is claiming that Funimation has used illegal business practices, such as conspiring with business partners and obtaining confidential information about ADV from them, to obtain more market share in North America. Even if they didn't obtain a monopoly as a result, that could still be illegal.
Honestly, there is no point in anybody getting worked up over it at this point. On the bright side, it's probably more likely that both sides will come to some sort of settlement, as a federal anti-trust lawsuit will drag on for years and cost a ton of money for both of them.

Actually, it was Funimation that filed for a movement to Federal court. The ADV anti-trust lawsuit is a separate case that will also be tried in Federal court. The two cases could potentially be merged in some way and argued before the same judge, but that's not a given.

It's a legal ploy/maneuver on adv/sentai's part IF sentai is taken out there is no other huge competitor anime titles left in the states so they are not completely off. All that would be left is NISA and Aniplex Usa which are hardly a blip on the radar to some-one as big as funimation which is dangerous.

I am so not worked up, I am clapping and laughing at all of this, anything to make Funimation look bad. Heck if I was down in Texas I'd sit in the courtroom for the hearings and start coughing convulsively whenever a Funimation lawyer started speaking. Is it illegal to cough? Just enough to get politely escorted out.
