The red moon: mysterious, magical, malignant. It paints the backdrop in a sea of red and provides a foreboding tone. Several series have used the blood-red sign. Which ones left a mark in your mind?

Okay, overwhelmingly dramatic paragraph aside, what are some series that you remember that has a red moon show up in it?

Hanasakeru Seishounen
I just spent about 20 freakin' minutes scouring through several episodes to find the scene I'm thinking of, but no such luck. In this scene, Queen-Mean-of-the-Banshee-Scream (no, really, that's what her laughs sound like) Najayra dances underneath a red moon while, I guess, trying to use her fortunetelling abilities. Anyways, I couldn't find the episode, but I did find an image on the net.

Image: I like the shades of red in this one. Normally the red moons I've seen just tend to be one tone.

Yami no Matsuei / Descendants of Darkness
Muraki... effin' Grade A Creep Muraki. That jackarse is the first one who comes to mind whenever I think of a red moon. The red moon shows up in several scenes during the series, and even occupies the opening sequence when the bastard shows up ... can you tell I love insulting him?

Images: Opening sequence (Muraki is the dude in white... all the better to stain with blood, my dear), Episode 2 right after Muraki shows up to do what he does best: mentally and physically torture and molest people

The red moon seems quite fond of the psychotic nutters.

Sadly, willag, I think you and I will be the only people participating in this awesome thread. I love the fact that you've included some screen shots in your examples. I don't have the energy for that, but I'll reprint my examples from that thread in the Community Forum:

I'm pretty sure 11eyes had several of these because one of the things about that show was when characters spoiler["shifted" to the alternate version of reality, everything looked red] and I'm pretty sure there was some cool moon shots.

There was a pretty bad show a few years ago called Ōkamikakushi that supposedly dealt with spoiler spoiler[werewolves] and I'm pretty sure they had some nice moonshots, too.

From now on, whenever I see an example of this, I'm gonna write it down and report it in this thread!

If anybody wants to actually find the images I'm talking about and provide a link to them as willag has done with hers, that would be just sooper!

*crickets*

No? FINE THEN.

Oh, I think episode 4 and 5 of Melody of Oblivion had some cool red moon stuff. MC rolls into a weird town where I think it's always night or something.

I don't recall the moon being red in those episodes. It was the lighthouse that put out the red light sometimes. There was a red moon towards the end, I think, when explaining one female character's nervousness about getting naked. Draw your own conclusions.

I feel like Kenshin put out the red moon when a bunch of people were about to die, though I might be mixing series up.

In ep 20 of Beelzebub, a red moon appears when one of Tojo's hangers-on beats some thugs.

I'm really surprised this element isn't used more in anime, but glad it isn't overused so that it retains its coolness.

It was used in a few scenes in Canaan. Can't remember which episodes specifically, but I know it was in there a few different times.
