I just found out about [URL removed. -Nagi], and I immediately thought to myself that a partnership between AniDB and the AnimeNewsNetwork encyclopedia could likely prove to be most interesting.
AniDB has a nice, programmatical interface for fetching info from the DB (which, I've heard, ANN has been thinking of implementing for quite a while), and the ANN encyclopedia has, well, a lot of nice Anime data (AniDB does too, but it seems that ANN has more). It just seems to me that there would be a perfect symbiosis.
What does the encyclopedia staff say? I'm well aware that I'm a bit hyperbolic right now, but doesn't it seem like a nice idea?

ANN doesn't link to fansub sites.

Like one3rd said, ANN is more or less a no-fansubbing zone. And with AniDB openly providing links to fansubbers, any sort of collaboration between the two would not work unless AniDB removed any and all fansubbing content from their site. And I somehow don't see that happening.

Really? Wouldn't all you would have to do be to simply not display the fansub info?

Like others have said, ANN has a non-promotion-of-fansubs policy. When you consider that the purpose of anidb is to maintain a nice ordered list of all the pirated anime in your "collection"... that really goes against our ethics. I admire anidb from a technical viewpoint, but frankly it pains me that anyone would put so much effort into making such a splendid pro-anime-piracy resource.
