I'm sure they have their reasons. But I'm sure people here are going to take this out of context just to attack Kyoto Animation for no reason...

I wonder how many "Girls in highschool form club" submissions they made it through before they were like, "F- this. No winners again."

If you're never going to award a grand prize, then...why have it at all?

Considering they're animating the 'non-winner' from the 2nd time, it wouldn't surprise me to see them do another from this batch eventually. Of couse, they were good enough to adapt to an anime but not good enough for the 300k yen. Oh wait, this year there weren't even honorable mentions. This contest just gets sillier and sillier every year.

I'm glad that Kyoto Animation have the balls to not pick a winner if they don't deserve it. To pick a winner just because there's nothing else is lack of quality right there.

Why do I have a feeling that Kyoto Animation is the proverbial lions being lead by Donkey type thing. For three years they have held an "award show" and never award a grand prize. This time they don't even bother awarding anything. What is the point of this award show other than to occasionally get ideas for an anime.

I'm curious what the entries were, but I bet we will never know any of them.

Love it or hate it, this outcome is amusing. Third year the contest has been run, third year it's awarded no grand prize.
I wonder what the consequences are for entry. If forfeiture of certain property rights is among the consequences, as I imagine it would be, then I can easily see why such a relatively small purse might not be encouraging the very best people to submit their very best ideas. |

Only one possibility: They are otaku-bait, loli, moe and harems. |

Well said, Too bad most people won't see it that way,as the comments sections is already showing us. If they want the prize they must earn it. And show some individuality amongst the masses |

I still think they are kind of using these contests to shop for ideas they can modify later to make their own original idea. Out of many entries, they can't find one that might be different or another take on a genre? If this happens again, I think they have no plans for a complete winner and at the most do small honorable winners. |

When was the last time Kyoto Animation actually animated a well written story with some individuality? Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid? |

3 grand prizes x ¥300,000 + 3 honorable mentions x ¥100,000 = ¥1,200,000
That's just about $15,000, which is might not sound like a lot, but then again it's also a significant chunk of an animator's salary Heck, they removed the scenario/script treatment category this year. Coupled with loss of rights, it's not hard to see why there's little incentive for both KyoAni and potential submitters to work for this program |

That's really too bad. Then what's the point of a contest if you don't have any winners? Were all the submissions just that bad?

What a biased comment. Just because you don't like some of their other series or because they "aren't Full Metal Panic", doesn't mean they aren't "well written" or don't have their own individuality. |
