Am I the only one who is just a teensy bit encouraged by hearing him say that not only has Kubo been included on the discussions, but also that they want to avoid what happened with Dragon Ball and that they appear to want to set it in Japan instead of attempting to Americanize it? Frankly I think those are points in favor.

Someone pinch me.

I was. Then I remembered what Kubo Tite did to Bleach. Stupid butterfly.

Nope. I was encouraged after reading that as well. We'll see how it ends up.

Coming from the writer whose movie's being panned through the stratosphere, I'm not sure how much I trust his word.

All he said was that he was going to try to make a faithful story not that he was going to write a brilliant story.

I'm definitely encouraged too, but I'm still cautious until after the producers and directors go through it

However I wish they would concentrate on the whole conspiratorial drama of the show, since that's the main story. The hollows and human who can see them, "sixth-sense action-adventure" thing is just a plot device for that deeper, bigger mythology about Soul Society, the Arrancar, etc. But then again, it's impossible to cover that in a single movie...

I've always said, this film should be simply based around when Ichigo gains Soul Reaper powers thanks to Rukia, and then the struggle to prevent her being taken away by Renji and her brother.
That keeps the budget low and if it does well, it is a better means with a bigger budget for a sequel based on the Soul Society arc.
Not a hard concept. I just guess setting it Japan is the main drawback for studios.

Ditto. Just like everyone else is basically saying...

I at first, thought the idea was just gonna be another flop like the DBZ movie, but, after reading this... I do feel a little better.
And dare I say, actually interested and think it might not be as much of a train wreck as I originally thought.

... It might might actually be good....

The best way to avoid it being like the DB atrocity is...

Don't make the film.

Mazeau sounded like he was restraining himself as he described the way Dragonball: Evolution turned out. Laughing He might deserve my respect if that was the case; it takes some strength to not go on about how screwed up all 100% of that movie was. I was amazed at how well they actually managed to screw it up and make it the troll of the entire Dragonball franchise. The same with the Avatar franchise and The Last Airbender.

I'm feeling more optimistic about this idea of a live-action Bleach than I ever was for one about Dragonball.
