I was just wondering how many soundtracks there are to Neon Geneis Evangelion because everytime I turn around it seems like there is another one. Also which is the best buy or which ones are better than others?

Off the top of my head I
can think of several.

Osts 1, 2, 3
The Day of Second Impact
The Birthday of Rei Ayanami
Refrain: The Songs were Inspired by "EVANGELION"
Refrain of Evangelion (recent best-of cd)
Evangelion Symphony
Cruel Angels Thesis/Fly Me to the Moon single
The S2 works. (Collection of different versions of just about every piece of BGM you can possibly think of in Eva)
Evangelion Classic: Bach, Suite for Cello Solo No.1
Evangelion Classic: Verdi, Requiem
Evangelion Classic: Beethoven, Symphony No.9
Evangelion: Death
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth
The End of Evangelion
Evangelion VOX
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Addition

My favorites are OSTs 1 and 2, and the movie OSTs. The Day of Second Impact is pretty good as well. Refrain (the original) is just a whole bunch of remixes and/or songs that were "inspired" by the show. Symphony is just some stuff they recorded live, which I didn't think was very good. VOX is all R&B/Rap, but it does have Armageddon, which is a pretty good song. S2 works... well if you want to listen to 20 variations (at least they are called variations, but sometimes you can't the difference), of EVERY BGM used in the series, then go for it.

You forgot to mention Neon Genesis Evangelion: Fly Me to the Moon, which includes every single version of the ending theme.

Yeah, that's not exactly something that comes to the front of my brain often. It's just scary.

I also forgot to mention that the last 12 tracks of OST 3 are all different versions of FMttM as well.
