A quick search on IGN reveals quite a large list of Naruto games released only in Japan. Does anyone know if there is any chance of any of these games coming to North America?
http://my.ign.com/my/sb?pageID=2003&nuaction=gameSearch&gameTitleSearch=Naruto Thanks. |

Bandai has the rights to the games. As far what system we'll see these release is unknown. Chances are that first of the releases will be Playstation 2, maybe on the Gamecube, GBA, and DS later down the road.
EDIT: Brain fart, GC and GB verisons are in Tomy hands. Last edited by Ataru on Sun Oct 09, 2005 1:13 pm; edited 1 time in total |

If Naruto becomes popular, they might release the games. I mean, they released One Piece: Grand Battle. And no there are no better forums for this here. There is no anime based game forum or a general topics forum here.

I just e-mailed the newsroom about it but in case they decide not to run it, the first Narutimate Hero has just been confirmed by Bandai for 1st quarter (between January and MArch) 2006. No word on the GC ones yet though. Here's the link to the full story:

Eh, that's something, but it's the least of the Naruto game series out there. The best is the GC fighter, then the GBA/DS RPG, then the GBA/DS platformer, THEN the PS2 series.
The only problem with any of the game series, of course, is spoilers. The first GC game, which covers up to about episode 20, is a little weak, and well overshadowed by the second, which covers up until about episode 55-60, as do the second platformer (the good one) and the RPG. So if they released those early, there'd be spoilers for people watching the US TV series (at least in terms of characters and special moves, especially if they leave story mode intact). Of course, that didn't stop them from releasing One Piece: Grand Battle, so maybe they'll release NAruto 2 or 3 right away. |

Ah, that's too bad. I was hoping for the GCN releases. From what I've heard, the PS2 games are crap compared to the GCN ones. Even if the first GCN games (EDIT: game) is a little weak in terms of character selection, I think that fans would still enjoy it since the characters are all relavent to where we will be in the anime shortly, and the game is supposedly that much better. Plus, I don't own a PS2, but only a GCN. ![]() Actually, does Bandai only own the rights to the PS1, PS2, and PSP Naruto games? Looking at the Japanese producers, these are the only Naruto games made (EDIT: produced) by Bandai (and the WonderSwan Color game). The GCN, GBA, and DS games are all produced by Tomy. Are these ones even licensed yet? If not, that would explain why Bandai is only releasing the PS2 games right now (EDIT: in North America)... Looking at past games, like Zoids Vs. for GCN, do you think that Atari may license the Tomy Naruto games? On one hand, yes, we would get the games, but on the other, Atari did a worse job on the translation of Zoids Vs. than (EDIT: Toaplan did on) the translation of Zero Wing for Genesis... Well, I hope Viz Media can give out a license for the Nintendo Naruto games soon, and to a competent company. Is there any word of this? Thanks. |

Yes, yes, but is Tomy the one that can hand out the license? Ah, here we go: a press release: http://www.viz.com/news/newsroom/2005/06_naruto_games.php So, Bandai only has the rights to Sony-based systems, and Viz Media gave them the license to release those games in North America (and trading card games, but I wonder if this is the Japanese version or a new one Bandai America is making...I hope it's the Japanese version). This means then that Tomy is not the one to give out the license for Nintendo-based systems, but Viz Media is the one. I really hope they do give out the license, though, and soon, to either Bandai or some other competent company, like maybe Namco since Bandai Namco is one company now... |

I am about to send this email to Viz Media:
"Recently, Bandai America announced plans to release Naruto: Narultimate Hero 1 for PS2 in early 2006. Also, Viz Media in June announced that Bandai America was given the license to release Sony-based Naruto games and Naruto trading card games in North America. Since in Japan, Bandai is the producer of Sony-based Naruto games, this move made perfect sense. However, there are also many quality Naruto games for Nintendo-based systems, but these are all produced by Tomy Entertainment in Japan. My question is this: Does Viz Media have any plans to give the license to these Tomy-produced Nintendo-based Naruto games to a North American video game producer that can release these games in North America? There are many people that would love to hear that these Nintendo-based Naruto games are going to be released in North America, and given the rapidly growing popularity of the Naruto franchise in North America, I'm sure it would be a good business move not only for Viz Media, but also for the company to which Viz Media would give the license of Nintendo-based Naruto games. I and many others eagerly await your reply. Thank you very much." Last edited by Josh7289 on Sat Jul 24, 2010 12:53 am; edited 1 time in total |

One is Tomy wants to release the games State side. Right now, Tomy US is just doing baby and preschool toys and games, nothing about video games. So they either have open a branch to handle the translation, marking, and all that other stuff to get the game to the stores. Or, they can let Bandai publish the games for the US. Two, the demand of the games. People sending letter and calling them asking when or if the games are coming the Nintendo system help, but only alittle. If people buy up the games, and see people asking for the Tomy verison of games, they'll ask Tomy to publish the games over here, or let Bandai US handle it. You can try sending your letter, but I'm pretty sure it'll come back as "No plans at this moment." |

I think the popularity of Naruto right now, and the rate at which it is growing, is enough to justify the releases of Naruto games for other than just the PS2, like the GCN games. Anyway, isn't it true that many of the kids that buy everything with even just the name of their favorite series' (EDIT: series) have GameCubes more then PS2's? Not to endorse the old "kiddy" view of Nintendo, but I thought it was a fact that many kids do afterall own a GameCube. |

Well, the demand should eb pretty clear. Gekitaisen is one of the most imported series out there. Otakon had about a dozen units playing Gekitaisen, each packed with people, more than were playing ANY other game aside from maybe Halo, while I didn't see a single copy of Narultimate playing. It's not a tough call. |

The FMA games were apparently horrible, panned by all critics as "only if you love the show", like the PS2 Naruto games. The GC games, on the other hand, are really great games that even people who've never heard of Naruto enjoy. Besides, think of the coverage it could get. There are NEVER any good games for Gamecube, much less good ones that are exclusive. Poor Cube.ign has to spend all their time gnawing on month-old Zelda scraps and articles left over from other systems, like Marvel Nemesis.
