Starting next Saturday at 7:30, DBZ Uncut gets a weekend timeslot on Toonami. You know what this means, right? Light profanity, (this time intentional) light gore, MIDDLE FINGER-FLIPPING and blood on a KID'S BLOCK. I'm all for this, but do you think it's really a good idea to subject kids to this? Is CN just asking for calls from soccer moms? And why does it even need a weekend airing; I think showing a PG-level show late at night during the week is better. What do you guys think?

?

Isn't DBZ already showing uncut on CN? Or was that even edited?

I don't know. If this now is DBZ as it is in the original unedited version, then that's good. But I would thank CN for doing this. I'm glad they would be saying, "Screw soccer moms" or whatever. It's not like DBZ is going to warp some kids who watch it into believing they should go out and kill people. I guess it "needs" a weekend airing so CN can milk as much as they can from DBZ with "new uncut" episodes. So anyway, it's not really a big deal. I don't think kids will be "offended" by it, and I really don't think parents would make a big deal of it. Believe it or not, but in the past 10 years, the "standards" of anime on US TV are closing in on the point at which the "standards" of anime on Japanese TV are.

Yes, it initially started with a Mon-Thu run (which ends tommorrow night). This was uncut as well.

I don't know about that last part, but I do think that some people would have a problem hearing "Now I'm pissed," and seeing people flipping the bird at 7:30PM on a kids' block.

Don't be dumb. Their just going to reair what was being shown on Mon-Thurs at 10. And calling this the undedited dbz is giving it a tad too much credit. It really should be called the less edited dbz. I think Toonamie might be pushing their luck with this one. With the airing of the "unedited" DBZ, they show things like blood, corpses, fingers being thrown around, say words like kill, hell, and die. However, if pushing the envelope will improve the state of anime on basic cable television, then more power to Toonamie.

I don't get you. First of all, you say that we shouldn't call it the uncut version and then you say that it IS the uncut version after accusing it of being a "less-edited" version (how is it only "less" edited when it has all the things you mentioned?). You forgot about the profanity, too. This is a big step for Toonami.

And yes, I know, they're airing the weekly stuff on a new day and time. What else are the gonna show, the Japanese version? Rolling Eyes

What's there not to get? I called it unedited after adding quotation marks around it signifying my reluctance to call it the unedited version. Yes they do show what I just said in the "unedited"(<-------notice quotations) version of dbz but in the real unedited version, they have all that at a more frequent amount and with more blood on the scene. In this version, they still do dumb down the blood (slightly) and we all know that there are more vulgar words thrown around so that is still slightly edited. I'm not saying that this is not a step and beyond what is normally aired. "Uncut" dbz at 10 is far better today than what Adult Swim was about 2 years ago.

The ammount of blood shown in the Uncut Toonami Broadcast is equal to the ammount shown in the original Japanese version. The ammount of video, excluding the Opening and Ending credit sequences, is the same as the original Japanese version. The music is different, and the language, in regards to swearing, is relativley more coarse than that of the Japanese track (since DBZ was never laden with profanity, it's just translators through various projects took liberties with the script in an attempt to make it more "mature").

Trust me, as a person who has owned the original Region 2 DVD release, and has seen the show in on fansubs, uncut region 1 discs, and god knows whatever else, this version has no in-show video removed. It has different Dialouge, Music, and credits, but that's basically it.

It was uncut and unedited. There were no edits when it was shown in CN.

I think outlawwolf is just trying to make DBZ out to be some uber-mature gorefest filled with profanity to make himself feel cool. Give it up. What we see on CN IS the uncut version.

Are they starting from the Saiya-jin saga?

Anyway, I know they cut the first four episodes down to two if I remember when FUNimation was with that PC jerk off, Haim Saban. But as Carlito from the WWF would say on it being unedited, "Now that's cool."

Yes. The only uncut episodes that CN ordered were the ones from the Saiyan Saga and early Freeza saga.
