Yuck! That was one big edit. CN edited out the scene in which Naruto stabs himself in the hand. It was a really crappy edit in which the screen "zoomed in" really quick twice on the kunai, then gave the image a redish-pink tint to simulate blood or violence or something. It really ruined the moment and significance behind the action...I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come. If Naruto can't be shown stabbing his hand...Please don't cite possible edits from future episodes that may contain spoilers, even though I have read the Shonen Jump USA manga up until now. Thanks.

At least they showed his bloody hand a bunch of times afterwards. And don't forget how they showed Iruka getting stabbed in the first episode.
I'm surprised they showed that guy drink. I mean, we all know that's not tea.
And it wasn't a crappy edit. A crappy edit would be completely cutting it and taking out the fact that he even stabbed himself. Don't forget, this is TV-PG, but even some things are still to risky for a kids' block... or are they? animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18071

If you really expect to see someone stab himself anywhere on Toonamie, please recognize that you live in Naivesville USA. Seriously, Toonamie has really improved since it's origins and we have seen more than any of us really expected to in Naruto. This wasn't such a huge edit. Get over it.

Oh yeah, and they edited his sake bottle to not show a label. It was pretty obvious and for some reason it caused him to move strangely, like sort of blurry, on screen. O.o

You're right in that Toonami has really improved since it started, but I don't see why they can't show this. Considering the time it's on, 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM, I would think they could show this. It's not like he commits seppuku and all the gore is shown on screen. He just stabs his hand and there is blood. Plus, it adds more to the impact and motive of the action.

Will you please stop misspelling Toonami in every thread you post in?

In case you are new to Naruto edits on Toonami, there is no flowing blood. From nose bleeds to Naruto stabbing his hand to get the poison out. They don't want kids stabbing themselfs to get the bleach they just drank out their system. The impact was still there because of the comments after the event.

The flowing blood thing can be argued against. After he stabbed his hand, it showed three drops hit the ground. Technically that's flowing blood, but it's only shown after it has completely left the body. I don't know. It's still annoying how they edit it that way. Why don't the (EDIT: they) show flowing blood, but they show blood otherwise? I would think if they showed flowing blood from his hand, and assuming kids would actually be inclined to stab themselves after seeing this, they would be less likely to stab themselves after seeing the "gruesomeness" of it, no? In any case, why do the Japanese not have to edit this kind of thing? To get stereotypical, are Japanese children more mature than American children?

Japan is a completely different country with a completely different culture and broadcast standards.

Uh, what he said. In my book, and Viz/ShoPro might have the same book, drops of blood don't really equal flowing blood, that or they forgot to get that part. But hey, if they cut out the gush of blood due to perverted thoughts, it makes sense that they cut out Naruto stabbing himself. It's best not to give people a new target of fandom to hate.

I'm pleased with the US version so far, other than the crappy VO for Naruto.

Yeah, that really was a massive, glaring, kick in the balls of an edit. Poor form CN, poor form.
I didn't even see where Naruto supposedly got the cut that required him to clean the wound. Was that lost during the commercial edit?

It was totally tea. Or juice. Maybe they didn't go $Kids out of their way to have him say "I'm drinking juice here, this is totally juice, seriously!", but he never claimed it was alcohol, nor was there any reason to suspect it might be if you weren't familliar with what "drunk" looks like.

Totally. Japanese kids are just plain better than our stupid American kids. We have to wrap our stupid American kids in bubble wrap because theyre too stupid not to die all the time.

They COULD have just digitally edited the blood spurt from him stabbing his hand, as they've done in the past. That would have been a 3-4 on the "bad edit" scale. But instead going to a weird jumpy close-up thing, it scored a deffinite 7 (a 10 being the entire Reverse Mountain episode of One Piece).

Unless the edit is so bad that it leaves ambiguity as to what is going on or completely changes the meaning of something, the I don't see why you have such a big problem with it. And it seems like you really don't care about it except for something to complain about and say, "ZOMG!! Teh CN iz ruining my Animez!!" Just keep downloading your torrents and don't bother with watching it on TV if you hate the TV version so much.

Blame the parents not the kids. Besides, the fact that sticking two fingers up other people's butts and other games like dickdodging or whatever it's called are popular kid games in Japan doesn't make Japanese kids better than American kids.

No, it was a pretty glaring edit. When an edit is ugly, such that it lessens the graphical quality of the show, then that's a bad thing. That's what happened in this case. Feel free to go after me instead of Viz or CN though, I'm sure I'm the bad guy here.

No, but the fact that they can watch someone stab his own hand to get the poison out without having hand-stabbing rampages does make them considerably better than our stupid American kids.
