I was looking forward to this before but now I don't know. I don't mind the change in art style TOO much but the tone of the show looks drastically different from the movie. The fact that the first episode is called "First Kiss" is my first warning flag. Hopefully it will be good though.

Hmmmm...looks ok. It is the non-bitter days of 'Saya'. Maybe this will shape up once the show gets going. Let's give it a chance at least.

Of course if it does well, more than likely we will see it here as it rides on the coat tails of it's movie counterpart.

I've have yet to check out 'Hellsing' maybe I'll check into this film as well.

I'm hoping this is a prequel, showing us a Saya unaware of her past or true nature, and later in the series being forced to awaken to the form she assumes in the movie & manga. Otherwise I can't see the radical shift in mood working out too well (unless this is an alternate retelling, or something, which in itself isn't a reassuring prospect, either). A question to that end, though: did what we see of the setting in the trailer look like a convincing 1960s-era Japan to anyone else? It kinda does to me, but I'm not 100% sure.

Also, is it just me, or does anybody else see there very likely being a harsh clashing of musical styles between Hans Zimmer and Hitomi Takahashi?

From the Production IG Blood+ webpage:
Quote:
Okinawa, Japan. Year 2005. Now.

Saya Otonashi is a high-school girl living peacefully with her family ? with one exception: she has no memory of her life except for the past year. One day, a startling event causes her happy life to shatter into pieces.

An enemy to destroy, a mission to accomplish ? the vortex of an ancient struggle is dragging Saya back to her destiny. A young and handsome cello player in dark clothes appears ? his name is Hagi. The moment he hands Saya a Japanese sword, History starts a new course.

Will Saya be able to restore her memory, and find her own identity?

So it's not a prequel.

Where are you guys getting that Blood+ premieres on "October 7th at 2:20 am (Night of October 6th)"?
All indications (including the official site and MOONPHASE's page) point to the evening of October 8th at 6:00PM JST, in what used to be Gundam SEED Destiny's time slot.

Edit: I see where now. (http://mbs.jp/blood/index2.html) I assume you guys are going by the very first airing on BSN.

Prequel, sequel. It's definitly a different story from the movie. I hope it fills in the blanks to when, where, & why she had her memory erased, and by whom, otherwise it will make no sense. But when has that sort of thing stopped an anime. Wink BTW, does anybody know if this series follows the manga, or is it a completely different universe?

Somehow I'm really looking forward to this series. Though the animation differs from the movie it still looks good. And the theme that played just got me hooked, Hitomi Takahashi is a very talented singer.

Brian's point is that it is definitely not Saya's origin story (unless mucho flashbacks are involved), as it is set after the movie, in which she is fully aware of herself.

So what is Saya's original story again? Anyway I got that. I just hope there is some explanation about how, being a vampire, she is able to feed herself whilst not knowing that she is one in this series. Wink

Saya's origins were given in the 'Blood 2002' manga... Won't elaborate here for those who may want to see for themselves, but to say her genesis was unexpected and surprising isn't far off the mark. It could be possible that she suffered a form of ammesia after the manga's climatic end, but I doubt it.

As to the new anime, I was under the impression that it was a prequel (obviously not now). Personally I found the animation in the trailers and theme music a bit disappointing. Does anyone think Blood might go the way of Ghost in the Shell, as in each medium in the franchise constitutes a different AU to the original?
