Well if you don't mind watching it dubbed it also airs on Adult Swim. Currently they're re-running the end of the second season and new episodes are airing on Saturdays. But if you'd prefer the DVD's you probably should go with the boxsets since they'll save you a lot of money.
Only the first one is out at the moment though, the second one is going to be released in November. I personally like Inuyasha but it started to drag a bit for me in the third season (a lot of filler from what I remember.)

I suggest you save your money. Textbooks cost too much.

I've personally only seen one or two of the movies at video rental stores, so if you don't have access to Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network and there are no libraries near you that carry parts of the series, you're probably going to have to buy. I would suggest asking for the season 1 box set as a holiday gift if you can - you'll want to save what little money you have right now.
As for Inuyasha itself, I'll second Cetus-kun's verdict. The series would have been very good if it had only lasted two seasons - interesting fantasy concept and some of the best background art I've seen in an anime series - but the fact that it's lasting too long is starting to hurt it and knock it's ranking down a bit. I'll watch the whole thing on Adult Swim, but I'm not sure I would actually put down money for it considering the committment for the whole series is very large.

Yes. I second the others who have said that the availability of this series for rental is limited so you should ask for the box set for Christmas. The length of this series is such that it would be difficult for someone in your financial position to really start watching it right now. I like Inuyasha; however, season three was mostly filler. The series kind of drags and I have heard the ending isn't very satisfying.

Also the manga can save you a bit of cash. Its most likely in English depending where you buy it but it just tells the same story as the anime (or rather the anime tells the same story as the manga). Also you can get the Ani-manga for at least the first movie.

Why buy the ani-manga when you can buy the movie for even cheaper? I say you should buy or rent the movies and just watch it on cartoon network if you can. The series is long and I dont much care for it cause I think there are too many useless episodes and the series could have been cut down to far less episodes. But I also agree with slickwataris and save your money for the textbooks. hey if your broke then you should apply for financial aid. Then you can get your books and Inuyasha. I dont think "they" check what you spend the money on. My friend bought $1000 rims for his car with his financial aid. Me, I dont get financial aid . Damn unfortunate people get all the breaks! Well good luck and I hope you like the series cause I could honestly tell you I was dissappointed.
