That's very untrue. There have been *several* manga-version Chocolate cosplayers (female, too), and none of them have ever been asked to leave. All of them have just double-side sticked suspenders to their nipples, and the con has let them go, although that is EXTREMELY indecent.

Here's plenty of other cosplayers who have never gotten thrown out of cons, although I'd be *very* concerned to see any children catch even a small glimpse of them.

HOLY SHIT! thats way more exposed then Manfaye is.

The problem is that Man-Faye is not covered up. He wears no underwear under those shorts. He bends over and you see his genitalia.

I've read some of the posts but not all.

Here is my interpretation...

To be considered inappropriate you must not meet the FCC or state regulations. On the account of nudity... I believe they say you cannot show the female nipples and the lower private parts of both sexes.

So, if those parts are covered up there isn't a problem, legally speaking. The two examples in the last post, I would consider pushing to far for any normal, run-of-the-mill, family friendly convention.

However, on the account of private property. The owners have the right to expell whom ever they want for whatever reason... founded or not.

It would be great if society lived by Vash's "Love and Peace" statement... but you are hoping for too much.

Regardless, Man-Feye is a freedom of expression and not over the line if the above is followed. Many people have their views and will disagree. I support the freedom of expression cause, although I do not really understand crossplay at times. Therefore, that aspect is none of my business.

We go to Anime conventions and other conventions to have lots of fun. There is moderation and excess... Man-Feye just sticks out a little farther then others. lol

Cheers,

TJ

Come on, let's face it. May-Faye is disgusting. A hairy man dressed in a skimpy outfit made for a shapely, beautiful FEMALE anime character? The point of Man-Faye is obviously shock value. I wouldn't blame any con for putting the lid on his escapades. It's gross, and you all know it.

It's just the same if an overly obese woman dresses in a skimpy Sailor Moon outfit. Nobody wants to see that. We all want to pretend that we're noble and non-judgemental, because after all, we all go to cons to be part of the community and embrace it, but you know you cringe when you see that.

I'm not saying this to be cruel, it's just common sense not to wear clothing disproportional to your body type, because it looks tacky and in the case of tight clothing, calls attention to your less flattering body features.

It's not too much to ask for people to show some common sense and decency is their cosplaying. Maybe from some philosophical, artistic prospective, the human body is beautiful. But not Man-Faye's.

We get the joke already, Man-Faye. Now please, put some clothing on.

There's not a whole lot in question with regards to our standpoint. Our position has remained unchanged ever since AX2004, and it seems to sum up the matter quite well.

Anime Expo in no way discriminates against cosplayers or "crossplayers" and has a VERY laissez faire attitude regarding what and how people cosplay throughout the convention.

Action is only taken when the venue (in this case, the Anaheim Convention Center) receives a complaint and requests us to act, as happened with Man-Faye at AX2004. AX tries to work with the complainee where possible, and agreements with Man-Faye were struck accordingly. However, an additional complaint afterward revealed a violation of that agreement. Sadly, we were thus forced to implement our last resort of banning Man-Faye from AX, a ban which we are currently carrying to future years. If Man-Faye wishes to appeal this ban, he may contact us.

This was never an issue of equality, decency, or fairness, although indeed there have been previous cosplayers who in many people's opinions went beyond Man-Faye. However, he got complaints, they didn't. We're not the decency judges, nor do we want to be. The attendees of our convention and the attendees of conventions we share venues with are. It was a simple matter that our venue received several complaints and asked us to react accordingly. Any future instances will receive a similar response regardless of costume choice or gender.

To us, this is a dead issue, and the horse has been beaten into jelly.

On another note,

It is best to change costumes after a couple wearings... seriously I love Radical Edward... but 12 in one con is too much.

"Ed's not a boy, Ed's a little girl"

*CaRinge!*

Be happy, come back with another costume that is family friendly. Wink

(My sincere apologies to Jadress and ANN for the unauthorized useage of their mascot to portray how I feel after seeing these pics.)

And now my rebuttal:

Hey, if you wanna dress like that, be my guest. It's your body.

But I reserve my First Amendment right to moan, critique, demean, say bad things, get angry, swear, and use any racial and/or sexual slurs to describe your weak-ass attempt to look like your character that your poorly trying to replicate.......short of slander.

And let me just say, i've seen better cleavage at Ren Faires.......

I believe I've said this before, in another thread, but never mind - it bears repeating:

"You are all very silly Americans, and this is a very silly American discussion."

If any of you are not silly Americans (for instance, silly Canadians), I apologise in advance for any confusion, and invite you to substitute a fitting slur appropriate to your nationality.

That's all - you may carry on.

I disagree. When anyone (man, woman, skinny, overweight) dresses provocatively, they are looking to get attention (a rise) from people. Why else would they do it?

As for the examples given by Juniper... yikes...

This is hilarious, so one day some hardcore religious group happens to be in the area and cosplay is screwed forever.

"cosplay is screwed forever"? ONE costume has a couple of complaints against it. A costume that MANY people have mixed feelings on in the first place. Cosplay at large is by no means at risk.

WTF is speaking off? Confused

And I'll talk about how stupid Man-Faye is as much as I want.

Okay, that is just [expletive] disgusting. Wait, that's probably Man-Faye's wife. Laughing

You don't know? It's telling off; insulting; putting down; being derogatory (or being stupid)

If you think Man-Faye is overrated or overhyped or a just plain bad idea, then feel free to do so, but remember: Man-Faye is people, too.
